Linda's obituary
Linda Clair Rainwater Dabney passed away on May 12, 2024, at the age of 88. She was born April 6, 1936, in Brady, Texas, to Doris and Louis Rainwater. The firstborn of six, she was always an outstanding student, setting an example for her younger siblings. She graduated from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, Texas, in 1954, and went on to earn an Associate of Arts degree in Educational Psychology at Del Mar College where she was also inducted into the honor society, Phi Theta Kappa. Linda subsequently worked as a legal secretary for law firms in Corpus Christi before marrying Eugene E. Dabney in 1961 and eventually relocating to San Antonio. In 1976, Linda pursued further education leading to a career in counseling psychology. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, and later two Master of Arts degrees in Counseling Psychology (1978) and in British and American Literature (1986) at the University of Texas at San Antonio. A lifelong advocate of women’s rights and wellbeing, she enjoyed working at the Bexar County Women’s Center for several years, along with teaching writing classes at San Antonio Community College.
Family and friends for many years enjoyed gatherings at Linda and Gene’s house in San Antonio. Linda loved reading and listening to classical music. Her lively intellect and good conversation made her company forever enjoyable.
Linda is preceded in death by her husband, Eugene E. Dabney, her daughter, Frances C. Dabney, her parents, Louis and Doris Rainwater, and two of her siblings, Sylvia Rainwater Peoples and Louis Rainwater. She is survived by her son, Eugene E. Dabney, Jr., in San Antonio, and sisters, Donna Rainwater Barber in Azle, Texas, and Arlita Rainwater and Catherine Rainwater, both in Austin, Texas.
