Penny's obituary

Linda Lee Cowger (aka Penny), age 81, passed away on September 16, 2025, at Cedar Park Hospital in Cedar Park, Texas. Born on June 6, 1944 (yes, she was born on D-Day), in Natchez, Mississippi, Penny was the beloved daughter of Wallace Cowger and Nadine Cowger (Fougerousse).

Penny was preceded in passing by her devoted husband Larry McNeil. She is survived by her loving brother, Tony Henry (Susie); and her cherished children: Rachale Franklin (Dan Darrin) of Liberty Hill, Texas, and Lance Thompson (Jamie Nelson) of Huttig, Arkansas. She was a proud grandmother to Austin Franklin, Chase Franklin (Emily), Tyler Franklin (Kate Pritchett), and Mason Thompson (Savannah), and a great-grandmother to Violet and Louie Thompson.

A graduate of Morrilton High School, Class of 1962, Penny later attended Laredo Community College. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Morrilton Arkansas. She enjoyed a fulfilling career and retired from Maybelline Cosmetics in Little Rock, Arkansas. An avid reader, her life was enriched and informed as a lifelong student of the arts, sciences, faith, medicine, politics, and popular culture. She had a sharp mind and a quick wit, made friends easily, and stayed in close touch with family and friends.

Penny’s consideration for others extends beyond this lifetime. She arranged the donation of her body and complete medical history to the Genesis Whole Body Donation program, an organization which scientifically analyzes samples from organs, tissue, blood and plasma; comparing them to the full medical history of the donor to gain valuable insights into the efficacy of drugs and treatments that wouldn’t otherwise be possible. She researched the organization rigorously and determined that this would be the best possible use of her remains.

Penny’s life was marked by her love for people and her generous spirit. She delighted in sharing cooking, canning, and gardening tips, and had a special affection for all animals, especially dogs. She loved the beach, the outdoors, reading, and playing cards and board games with her grandchildren... Penny made sure they learned Monopoly at an early age. Above all, she treasured spending quality time with her friends and family.

Linda will be remembered for her hardworking nature, her indominable spirit (courage), and unconditional love. Her warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her, and she leaves behind a legacy of unconditional love, acceptance, and cherished memories.

The family is planning a celebration of life for Penny in Liberty Hill in the near future and will plan a second celebration in Morrilton, once her ashes are returned from the Genisis foundation to the family.
