Lillie's obituary
Lillie Victor was born January 13, 1937, in Veerabadrapuram, Thanaku, Andhra Pradesh, India, to Veeriah and Shantamma Chedalawada. She passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family, at the age of 88. She was the fourth of seven children: Enoch, Paulson, Ardys, Hephzi, Edna, and Robert.
Lillie graduated from Spicer College High School in 1956 and Giffard Memorial Hospital Nursing School in 1960. She met her husband, John Victor, in Nuzvid in 1959 and they married in 1965.
Lillie embarked on her nursing career in 1960 at Giffard Memorial Hospital in Nuzvid, then moved to Surat Adventist Hospital (now METAS) in Surat, Gujarat in 1964. After her marriage, she returned to GMH until 1971, when she and her family immigrated to the United States. She was offered a job at Misericordia Hospital in the Bronx, NYC, but when that fell through the family made their home in Takoma Park, MD. She worked at the Hospital for Sick Children in Washington, D.C., and subsequently joined Washington Adventist Hospital in 1973, where she dedicated her career to caring for premature infants in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) until her retirement in 2005.
Lillie experienced a stroke in 2007 but made a remarkable recovery, allowing her family to cherish an additional 18 years of her warmth and presence. Beyond her role as a devoted mother to her own children – Asha (and husband Mark), Pradeep, Sujatha and Premila – Lillie embraced many others as a second mother, offering guidance, support, and unconditional love. Her nurturing spirit extended far beyond her immediate family, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of all who knew her. Lillie is predeceased by her daughter, Premila, and “adopted” son, Emmanuel. She is survived by her husband, John; her children, her siblings, Ardys Prasada-Rao, Edna D’Costa, and Robert Chedalawada; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Lillie’s life will be held on Friday, February 21, at the Southern Asian SDA Church (2001 E. Randolph Rd, Silver Spring, MD 20904). There will be a viewing at 10:00 am, with an opportunity to greet the family, followed by the service at 11:00. Burial service follows directly after at George Washington Cemetery, 9500 Riggs Road, Adelphi, MD, and repast will be shared at SASDAC at 2:00 pm.
