Lillian's obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Lillian Ethel Simmons, who departed from this world on March 29, 2024. Born on April 22, 1941, Lillian's 82 years were filled with resilience, endurance, love, and joy. Her life served as an inspiring beacon for all those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Lillian was a remarkable woman, known for her formidable spirit and charm. She was a repository of wisdom and kindness, always enriching the lives of those around her with her profound insights and her warm, comforting presence. She possessed a rare ability to make everyone around her feel loved and valued, an attribute that attuned her to the needs of others.

She led a life that was testament to her strength and her unyielding belief in the human spirit. She fought the trials of life with a grace and dignity that humbled those who watched her journey. Her legacy will remain undimmed in the hearts of those who loved her, her memory a guidepost for us to navigate the rigors of life with courage and compassion.

Lillian’s life journey was a testament to her love for life and her commitment to leaving the world a better place. She worked at Lane Bryant for many years to create versatile styles for women of all sizes. Afterwards, she was a teacher in New York public schools. Her mission in life was to help and inspire others. Not only that, her laughter was infectious, her spirit indomitable, and her love unconditional. These qualities imbued her with a captivating aura that touched the hearts of all those fortunate enough to have known her.

In spite of facing numerous challenges in her life, Lillian’s spirit was never dampened, her resolve never wavering. The strength and resilience she demonstrated in life continue to inspire her family and friends, instilling within them the courage to face life's trials with grace and dignity.

Lillian was the oldest child to Ethel and Alfred Simmons. She is preceded in death by her sister, June Cogdell and partner Randolph Bonds. Lillian is survived by her twin siblings, Alfred and Catherine Simmons, devoted son, Abdul-Hashim Muhammad and special daughter Cheryl Bonds. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Jasmine Muhammad, 4 grandchildren: Jonquel Jones, Kiera Jones, Everett Hayes, and De'Von Muhammad, several great-grandchildren, and a host of friends and family.

We mourn the loss of Lillian, who left an indelible mark on all who knew her. Her spirit will live on in the lives she touched and in the hearts of those who loved her. While we are consoled by the thought that Lillian’s suffering is over, we are also reminded of the immense void she leaves behind. In her honor, let us seek to emulate her unwavering spirit, her extraordinary resilience, and her boundless love for life. In this period of grief, let us find comfort in the shared memories of her love, laughter, and life.
