Lillian's obituary

Lillian Angelina Moro died peacefully on December 15th, 2020 at the age of 104. She was born in Mendham, NJ on April 22, 1916 to Emelia and Pietro Moro, Italian immigrants from the Friuli region near Venice, Italy, from whom Lil acquired her love of all things Italian, especially cooking and music. A talented violinist, Lil was offered a musical scholarship to Oberlin College, but was forced to abandon her musical studies following a bicycle accident that caused life-long damage to her shoulders.
Lil graduated from Morristown High School and began her professional career as a switchboard operator at the Bell Telephone office in Mendham. Later, she joined Memorial Hospital at its original location (66 Morris Street) and remained with the hospital when it moved to Madison Avenue, where she was promoted to Chief Switchboard Operator and, ultimately, named Department Supervisor.
Lil remained with the hospital until her retirement, after which she joined her sister and other relatives in Florida. Following the death of family members in Florida, Lil moved to Marion, Virginia in her late 90s to be with her nephew, Robert, and his son, Louis. She remained in Virginia until her passing.
Lil loved travel, cooking, crossword puzzles and, above all, family and friends. Her reunion with family relatives in Italy, whose Friulan dialect she spoke fluently, was one of the highlights of her life. Lil survived the flu pandemic of 1918, but succumbed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus. She outlived all of her siblings (Joseph Moro and Louis Moro of Mendham, NJ; Arthur L. Moro, Sr. of Chester, NJ, and Ada Ennen of New Port Richy, FL.)
Lil is survived by her nephews Robert Moro (Glade Spring, VA), Dennis Moro (Morristown NJ), Arthur Moro (Chester, NJ), her niece Jennifer (Moro) Hall (Pleasantville, NY), numerous grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, and family in Italy, all of whom will remember her with fondness.

Lil requested cremation. Because of the prevalence of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, a private ceremony of interment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, Lil requested donations to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital https://www.stjude.org/donate…
