Lillian's obituary
Born on a farm outside of Urich, MO on December 24, 1923, she was the oldest daughter of Earl and Mildred (Brown) Gregg. Her siblings (now deceased) were Juanita, Natalie, William and Judy.
Lillian graduated from Urich High School in 1941. That same year she met and married her husband of 48 years, Louis Cecil Haverland (Deceased 1989). Lillian & Louis welcomed three children, daughters Linda (Donnici) & Marilyn (May) & son Raymond. She had 10 grandchildren: Scott & David May, Michael, John, Louis, Philip & Frank Donnici, & Brie (Mulcahy), Ryan & Bret Haverland. She had 16 great-grandchildren & 8 great-great grandchildren.
During WWII, Louis joined the U.S. Air Force while Lillian joined members of her family in Arizona. Following the war, she & Louis returned to Kansas City, where she began a successful, 3o-plus year career with Hallmark. One rule she strictly enforced was “buy only Hallmark cards” –she checked! Post-retirement, Lillian worked for Russell Stover for several years.
Lillian was Mom, Grandma, & Aunt Lil. She was a volunteer for Cancer Action, & was heavily involved in the Ararat Shriners of KC, even dancing as a “Casbah Darling,” to the surprise of her family! She was a generous supporter of the Urich Community Historical Society.
Lillian was the definition of a family matriarch. She possessed a strong will, a stronger work ethic, and an unwavering devotion to family. She saved, scrimped, sacrificed and supported many through their trials & tribulations. She will be greatly missed.
Contributions in her honor are suggested to Shriner’s Hospital for Children -https://lovetotherescue.org Burial will be private. There will be a celebration of life at a later date.
