Lidia's obituary
Lidia Dmitrievna Berezovskaya, 81, of Rostov-on-Don passed away fighting cancer on February 7, 2023 at her home in Lynnwood, Washington.
Lidia was born on September 15, 1941, in the village of Krasnaya Polyana, Rostov Oblast', Russia, to Stepanida Litvinova and Mikhail Ageevich Litvinov. She was swapped at the birth clinic and consequently raised by her nonbiological parents Maria Syrtsova and Dmitriy Syrstov. Her early life was war ridden, as she was born in the midst of Nazi Germany's attack on the Soviet Union. As a child she sheltered from bombs and soldiers. War and repression led to sending both her biological and non-biological fathers to the frontlines and her family away to live in Siberia for 8 years. She eventually returned to southern Russia in her teenage years and entered the workforce at 13, first working at a brick factory, later pursing higher education at Don State Technical University. Lidia was an Agricultural Engineer at Rostselmash, a Russian agricultural equipment company based in Rostov-on-Don. With 40+ years of work experience, she dedicated herself to her career and made significant contributions to the farming industry alongside her work collective. She met her husband Anatoly Berezovskiy at work (married: 1963.)
Eventually in 2008, Lidia and Anatoly immigrated to the United States to support their daughter Irina with her marriage and to help raise their granddaughter Sofia. Since then, Lidia has bought a home and created a beautiful environment for her family. She was a warm, charismatic, and generous woman, known for her big heart, perseverance and witty sense of humor. Lidia had a spirited personality had a love for making her family, doctors and neighbors laugh. She had a habit to shower people she loved with gifts. She took pride in her generosity and was a hardworking individual throughout her life. By her words; “I bring myself joy when I help others.”
Lidia had a passion for gardening, cooking, storytelling, and sewing. She found joy in tending to her garden, creating delicious meals for her family, and sharing stories with her family. She was a person full of love and sentiment. Lidia was very neat, stylish and detail oriented. She also had a love for pets and cherished the companionship they provided.
Lidia is survived by her husband, Anatoly Berezovskiy, her loving daughter, Irina Berezovskaya, and her adored granddaughter, Sofia Erica Berezovskaya. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Slavik Yakobchuk. Lidia's warm nature and generous spirit will be deeply missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Service was held in honor of Lidia at St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church in Seattle, Washington. Her funeral was held at Purdy and Walters at Floral Hills Cemetery.
Lidia Dmitrievna Berezovskaya will be remembered for her big heart, infectious laughter, and love for her family. Her legacy of warmth and generosity will continue to inspire those who knew and loved her.
