Lewis's obituary
Mr. Lewis Williams of Gadsden, SC passed away after a brief illness on March 7, 2023 at the William Dorn Veteran's Hospital in Columbia, SC. Lewis was the son of the late Ethel Mae and Ivory Clay Williams and was born in Kingville, SC. He attended the public schools of Richland County and graduated with honors from Webber High School and later attended and graduated from Benedict College with honors.
Lewis served his country honorably in Vietnam and attained the rank of Sergeant and was a paratropper with the 101st Airborne.
He was married to the late Shirley Gary and they were the parents of three daughters: Gabriel V. Hawkins (Clement Brown) of Augusta, GA, Shelby Devantier (Alberto Rodriguez) of Brandon, FL, Irma C. Hardison (Anthony) of Hamilton, NC all of whom survive him.
Lewis is also survived by numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, by his sister, Mrs. Carrie Williams Brown of Brooklyn, NY, brother-in-law Paul Brown and a brother AP Williams of Los Angeles, CA. and an aunt Mrs. Ada R. Hopkins of Gadsden, SC. He was pre-deceased by his parents and his sisters Margaret L. Williams, and Bessie Joyner, and by his brother Mr. Carnell Williams, Sr.
He is also survived by nieces and grand-nieces and grandnephews and by two very devoted and loving nephews: Mr. Melvin Williams of Eastover, SC, and Carnell Williams, Jr of Columbia, SC; two very devoted and loving cousins: Mr. Johnny "Dean" Goodwin of Lexington, SC, and Mr. Welton Goodwin, Jr. of Kingsville, SC all of whom loved him dearly and whom he loved dearly. Lewis is also survived by numerous cousins and relatives and friends who will cherish his memory and all of whom will miss him dearly.
Lewis was laid to rest with full military honors at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
