Lewis's obituary
In Loving Memory of Lewis Eugene Stickle
November 13, 1933 – February 28, 2026
Lewis Eugene Stickle, a man whose strength was found in his gentleness and whose life was defined by joy and simplicity, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at the age of 92.
Known affectionately as “Gene,” he began his journey in the Richard Mine section of Wharton, born to William and Margaret Stickle. His childhood was shaped by the values of a one-room schoolhouse and the close-knit community of Wharton High School. Gene honorably served his country in the aftermath of the Korean War (1956–1958) before embarking on a long, dedicated career as a lineman for Jersey Central Power and Light.
In 1954, Gene married the love of his life, Beverly Jane Unneberg. Together, they built a life rooted in devotion, raising three children—Sherry, Ronnie, and Vickie—whom he loved beyond measure.
Gene was a true craftsman. In the quiet of his woodshop, he turned lumber into heirlooms, building everything from sturdy dressers and armoires to delicate church podiums and signage. When he wasn't woodworking, he was often found tending to his garden; he possessed a legendary green thumb and a soul that was truly at home in nature.
In his later years, Gene found his greatest happiness in the role of grandfather. Whether he was watching his granddaughters, Gabby and Naomi, play, enjoying a classic Western movie, or sharing a morning meal at a local breakfast spot, he was at his most joyful when surrounded by family.
He is survived by his daughter, Sherry; his son, Ronald; his granddaughters, Gabby and Naomi; and his faithful feline companion, Luna. He joins his beloved Beverly and daughter Vickie in eternal rest.
