I would like to thank those for starting to write notes of condolence for my father Lewis B. Kaye from those who knew him in CT.
Despite his age, it was soul-crushing to learn that he passed away, and until this week I've been experiencing a level of heartbreak that made it impossible to even publish a formal announcement of his death - I've bought the memorial website that I'll link to this and his social media and email addresses, but it wouldn't matter is he had lived to 100 versus 91 the idea of a world without him still feels inconceivable.
While these kind comments on my father from friends made in the last decade have been incredibly considerate, there aren't words to express how much it's meant to me to have friends who I have not spoken with in YEARS who have reached out from all areas of the globe to check on me.
With the exception of our amazing cousins Barrie and Donna (both from my father's side), our family is quite small, and my cousins support coupled with friends reaching out have helped me to deal with the sadness, remember and cherish the joyful aspects of my relationship with my dad (and thank G-d, despite our spats, the good times continue to triumph in my mind and heart).
Working on his memorial is one of the hardest things I've ever tried to accomplish. I'm truly sorry for not reaching out earlier, but I know that my father wouldn't want my life to be consumed by the loss that remains with me every day. Therefore my plan is to devote a set amount of time each day until I have completed the site and hold the memorial service.
Between Covid, my health issues, and the sheer number of friends and work colleagues that he had accumulated throughout his life, choosing one day and time would inevitably leave out people who he would want to be a part of the process.
For this reason, I am planning on following his wishes and scattering his ashes on the beach in Florida and hopefully, I can create a hybrid zoom memorial, but in the interim, it would be wonderful to have photos and remembrances of him posted on the final site.
Due to a flood in one of our properties, I have virtually no personal items of his to keep as mementos. I'm not sure what happened to all of the property we both owned that was in the apartment he was living in at the time of his death. Despite being fully furnished when I visited towards the end of 2020, apparently, the apartment is virtually bare with the exception of a few chairs, and information regarding this situation has not been forthcoming,
Fortunately, our relationship exceeded and transcended material objects, but any stories and photos that visitors to the site decide to share would be incredibly appreciated.
COCO NO LOCO???
The few calls that I've received from people who knew both my father and me in Stamford have been very thoughtful, but understandably all were anxious about the well-being and location of his little love, his chihuahua Coco Loco Braun Kaye.
Coco is with me in Florida and happily snoring away as I type. It's been great therapy for both of us to be reunited, and I've been taking her for extended walks on a daily basis. She's not thrilled to be at the bottom of the pecking order of our pets (we still have Millie who is about 18 and her boyfriend Mister, another cat who is 17 and completely besotted with Millie (she continues to reign!!!) but she is showered with love and treats and knock on wood - has been a little sweetie.
Again - thank you for checking in to the site. I will be sending out a mass email when the site is completed and the zoom service is scheduled.
With warm wishes and gratitude
Daphne
