Levi's obituary

Levi Hayes LaSalle passed away Sunday 5/16/2021 at Bristol Myer Squibb Children's Hospital in
New Brunswick, NJ after fighting Covid-19 for several weeks.

Born in Toledo, OH 10/04/2001, Levi was the only son of Darrell and Cathy LaSalle. Levi also had a cherished sister, McKenzie who he enjoyed a very close relationship with. They truly spoke their own language of love (Wuh doo=Love you).

Levi was born with special needs and as a result his parents started a Son-Rise play program in his bedroom to help him grow. Many devoted people volunteered to spend time playing with Levi in his program. He loved every one of them in his own wonderful way. Just as he did throughout his life, Levi found the special way he connected with each person, the unique things they did TOGETHER, and never forgot. He knew what he most appreciated about his time spent with a person and drew it out of them. His bond was unique with each person he met.

After spending his first 8 years in New Knoxville, OH, Levi and his family moved to New City, NY in August of 2009 largely for the opportunities it offered medically and educationally to help Levi. He would need several surgeries for scoliosis which he received at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital. He also had developmental delays in many categories so the nearby (BOCES) Jesse Kaplan School in West Nyack, NY was a wonderful blessing. Levi's school provided him with nearly 12 years of loving, respectful, nurturing care. As the years passed, like in a relay race, teachers and therapists who worked with Levi passed the baton onto the next but always continued to cheer him in his race. All the staff there helped him grow into the kind, funny, independent, successful young man that he became.

Levi loved animals, watching baseball with his dad who called the game play-by-play, music, watching videos and surfing the web, especially YouTube! He always seemed to gravitate toward things that were happy, animated, uplifting, and GOOD! He loved excitement! He loved being cheered and celebrated! Success motivated success. Sometimes if you didn't celebrate him, he would do it himself. "Yay Levi!!!" just to remind you.

If you could summarize Levi, how he lived his life...LEVI LOVED!!!
