Leslie's obituary

Leslie Marie Taylor passed away on March 1st, 2021. She was in her home in Los Angeles, CA. Leslie lived to be 101 years old and will be missed immensely by her family, friends, and the community that she leaves behind.

Leslie was born on February 16th 1920 in New York City. Her parents were Clive Franco and Marissa Lebowitz. Leslie grew up in Brooklyn where she found her love for baking as a teen. Her love of food and feeding the people she cared about most would lead her to finding her lifetime partner Herbert in 1940. Herbert and Leslie would be married in 1943 and Leslie would give birth to her daughter Lisa in 1953.

Although the married life suited Leslie just fine, she would never stop baking. She created a career out of making desserts and pastries for people that would lead her to opening her first shop in Brooklyn in 1948 and then moving to Los Angeles in 1956 where she would take the reins of a struggling bakery and turn it into a mecca for lovingly handcrafted pies and pastries that would be recognized globally by both regular consumers and famous chefs alike. If you were lucky enough to have been able to taste one of Leslie's creations, then you understand how dedicated she was to creating not just an edible treat, but an entire experience.

In 2001 Leslie would finally retire from professionally baking and spent most of her days with her grandson Winston. During this time she also found her love for gardening. Leslie always loved flowers and always made sure that fresh flowers were in both her home and her shops. It was during her retirement years that she was able to cultivate her own garden. It is with this in mind that her fundraiser is to continue making the world a greener space and to protect the precious trees that this world needs to thrive.

Leslie was always in good health and loved staying active up until the day she passed away. Her sudden loss of life will be remembered by many of us, but her legacy will carry on through her recipes and desserts that continue to be made and shared throughout Los Angeles.
