Leslie's obituary
Leslie Anne Littlefield, 67, passed away on August 7th, 2025 in the comfort of her home in Turlock, CA. She lived a life centered on service, learning, and love.
Born on June 19th, 1958, in Corvallis, Oregon, she was the eldest child of the late Leon Littlefield Jr. and Norma (Young) Littlefield. As the daughter of a National Wildlife Refuge Manager, Leslie spent her early years on several different Wildlife Refuges throughout the Northwest. The Littlefield Family landed in Los Banos, California in 1973 and placed longstanding roots, becoming indelible members of the community and raising three generations in the surrounding areas.
Leslie graduated from California State University Stanislaus in 1984 and earned her Masters in Education from Fresno Pacific University, after which she was a devoted educator for 36 years. She began her career as a 4th grade classroom teacher, then worked as a Resource Specialist across Livingston Union, Merced City, and Turlock Unified School Districts. During nearly 20 years at Dennis Earl Elementary School, she was recognized as Turlock’s Teacher of the Year numerous times. Leslie was a true champion of her students and never failed to advocate for their needs, and her support and love was felt by many well beyond the classroom.
In addition to teaching, Leslie was a dedicated member of St. Francis Episcopal Church, where she served as a Lay Eucharistic Minister and Sunday school teacher. Leslie was a loyal member of the congregation for more than 30 years and found great joy and comfort in her faith and church community.
Leslie poured out her heart in love and was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend to all. Above all else, her greatest joy and proudest achievement was adopting her daughter, Claire, from Suzhou, China in December of 1997. She was a doting mother whose entire world centered on her daughter.
Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, Norma and Leon Littlefield Jr., her nephew Zachary Lewis, and her uncle Jack Young.
Known for her kindness, compassion, and fiery spirit, Leslie was a trailblazer in her community. She devoted her life to education, service, and love, and she is survived by her beloved daughter, Claire and partner Alden Blake; her siblings Lori Lewis, Tod Littlefield, and Lisa Littlefield; and by her many nieces, nephews, and friends who affectionately knew her as “Aunt Les.”
A public service will be held on August 22, 2025, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis Episcopal Church in Turlock, CA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the ACLU. Leslie was deeply committed to justice, equality, and protecting the rights of all people, values that the ACLU works tirelessly to uphold.
