Leslie's obituary
On February 5th, 2025, Leslie C. Davenport (née McDonald), passed away from a fatal heart attack, a complication from Cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP), from which she suffered for two and half years. Leslie was predeceased by both her mother, Constance “Connie” McDonald, and her father, Walter “Wally” McDonald. She was survived by her husband James “Jim” Davenport, her two daughters Phoebe and Julia Davenport, as well as her three sisters, Lynn Madaglia (and her family), Tracie Lopez, and Lisa McDonald.
Leslie was a devoted wife and a loving mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family, above all else. Leslie always put her daughters above everything else. She participated in the PSTOs at both Desert Harbor and Apache Elementary schools whilst her daughters attended them. During their high school years, she drove her girls to football games, band competitions, and other events, always cheering them on.
Growing up, Leslie’s biggest dream was to become a mother. She often told her daughters that they were her dream come true. She put them first in every way. She was their biggest cheerleader. She often believed in their success, even if they didn’t. She made it clear that she would follow them anywhere, even if it meant packing up and moving for a career change in the future.
Leslie was a devoted wife. She and her husband, Jim, were married for 25 years,10 months, and 24 days. Throughout their marriage, she enjoyed making his favorite meals, laughing together, and watching Star Trek at night—nearly every night for their entire marriage.
Leslie had a great love for cats. Throughout her adult life, she owned around 11 cats in total. Three of these kitties—Annie, Finn, and Delilah—are young, vibrant, and loved by her family. Boonie, Skippy, Lance, and most of her other kitties have long since crossed the rainbow bridge, but they never left her heart. Alongside several of her late cats, there were 2 loveable chihuahua-terrier mixes named Papi and Harry. Papi was Leslie’s beloved companion for many years and predeceased her by only a year.
Leslie earned a master’s degree in metaphysical studies. Raised Catholic, she practiced tarot and astrology for most of her adult life. She was known by those who knew her for her uncanny ability to predict various events, including the births of several children. She met her husband, Jim, at a psychic fair, where she predicted he would find the love of an older woman. She was, in fact, that woman.
Leslie enjoyed music; she went to many concerts in her lifetime. She saw everyone from Paul McCartney to Queen to Beyonce and even Taylor Swift. She also enjoyed television; some of her favorite shows included the Star Trek franchise and RuPaul’s Drag Race. She drank a lot of coffee and tea. She and her daughter Julia often got their nails done together. Leslie and her older daughter Phoebe enjoyed going shopping together. Every year, Leslie and her family attended the Arizona Renaissance Festival, a tradition her family intends to keep up. Furthermore, Leslie also participated in hobbies like scrapbooking, leatherworking, postcard trading, and reading. She was a well-rounded, energetic, and creative person.
Leslie was considered a dear friend by many, and a vital part of her family’s structure. Her loss has left a hole that will never be refilled. She is horribly, deeply missed, and will be for many decades. In an attempt to honor her legacy, her family is planning a Celebration of Life for some time later this spring. Details will be made available as they become known.
