Leroy's obituary

Leroy Phillips was born in Thebes, Arkansas to proud parents Ceaward and Ada Phillips on March 14, 1956. He was the seventh child of nine siblings. When Leroy was six months old Ceaward and Ada moved west to San Francisco, California in 1956 to make a better life for their family. The decision to move to the ”Golden State” created great opportunities for the Phillips family, which would eventually set them up for generations to come. Leroy was educated in San Francisco where he attended Jedediah Smith Elementary, Pelton Junior High and Mission High School from which he graduated in 1974.

In 1980, Leroy began his career as a transit operator with AC Transit in Oakland, California. Leroy had a deep love for serving the traveling public. Leroy retired on April 30, 2013 after 33 years of service.

In 1985, while working his shift at AC Transit, Leroy met Alicisa “LeLe” Stanifer. Leroy and Lele welcomed a baby girl, Felisha Christina Phillips, in 1987. Felisha was Leroy’s only child and she was his everything. He was such a proud, loving dad. Due to unforeseen circumstances Leroy became a single father and did a magnificent job raising his beautiful, beloved daughter.

Beyond being a proud father, Leroy was a loving son, brother, grandfather, and friend to many. He always prided himself in providing a helping hand to his family. He had an extremely big heart and would be there for anyone, especially the ones he loved. Leroy also had a special love for dogs. He raised many dogs during his young and adult life. He leaves behind his latest dog Rosco whom he loved dearly and who remained by Leroy’s side until his last breath.

Leroy enjoyed cooking, doing house projects, landscaping, and working out to keep fit was a must! It brought him so much joy to spend time with family and friends fishing, playing dominoes, chess and cards. Leroy was a business man. He invested in properties, stocks & bonds, anything that could make his money grow. He was always eager to share his knowledge and accomplishments with anyone he encountered. Being financially literate and stable was so important to him.

Leroy departed this life on June 15th, 2024. He leaves to cherish his memory: his daughter Felisha Phillips, grandson Saiveon Phillips, his siblings Willae Mae Fobbs, Lillie Dickey, Mary Phillips, Bobby Phillips, Gwen Phillips, and Ron Phillips, as well as countless nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends.

Leroy is preceded in death by his parents Ceaward and Ada Phillips and his sisters Fannie Beatrice Parker and Earlene Brock.
