Leonard Brenton Sorrells, ‘Big Brent’, Age 63, of Cumberland, died Tuesday, April 15, 2025 at UPMC Western Maryland with his family by his side.

Born October 24, 1961, he was the son of Florence Gail (Squires) Sorrells.

Leonard was raised by his mother and her grandparents: Mable and Leonard Squires- who introduced him to the gospel. He often attended LaVale Baptist Church with his best friend, Joe DiGilarmo.

Leonard had a heart for Jesus and enjoyed spreading the news of the gospel with family and friends.

He lived a storied life and enjoyed sharing those stories with others.

In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and fishing. He taught his children these things with much enthusiasm.

He selflessly chose to be an organ donor in hopes of saving others.

Survivors include his wife, Earlene; children, Heather Warnick and husband Jeremy, Leonard Sorrells, II and partner Shelley Gowans, and Nathaniel Sorrells. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren; his daughter-in-law, Pamela Sorrells; and his beloved dog, Piper.

A memorial service will be held at LaVale Baptist Church on Saturday, April 26 at Lavale Baptist Church with Pastor Jim Jeffries officiating.

The Upchurch Funeral Home, P.A., Cumberland, assisted the family with arrangements.
