Leona's obituary
Leona Marie Franklin was born in Winston, Oregon, USA, on July, 15th 1962. From her first moments on earth until her unexpected death in Roseburg, Oregon on June 26th, 2022 she was a force to be reckoned with-strong, passionate, and empathetic.
She married David Franklin on August 27th, 1995, with whom she shared her incredible love for God, music, travel, and adventure. Her taste in music spanned generations and genres, however, some of her favorites were the classics, ZZ Top, Nirvana, The Guess Who, Three Dog Night, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.
She attended The University of Oregon and earned her Bachelor of Science degree. She received acclaim by graduating on The president's Honor Roll and the Dean's List.
She was a civil servant at heart and volunteered with The Praying Warriors Ministry, and went to many prisons with her husband sharing the good book. One of her favorite verses, "Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." This was tattooed on her right shoulder.
Leona volunteered with the Douglas County safe needle exchange, she spent time volunteering with HIV and AIDS Alliance.
She has spent the last 10 years of her professional career at the Douglas County Juvenile Detention Center, where she worked with her son-in-law Donald Carter. She referred to the youth she worked with as her kids. It was her passion to help the youth in her community to achieve their goals and prevent them from reentering the system.
If there is one thing you will remember her by, it's her laugh, her sense of humor, and her unyielding need and desire to help the youth in her community.
She leaves behind, far too soon, her husband, David Franklin, her children Alan Clark, Angela Haymes, Aimee Franklin, her grandchildren, Tosha, Malachi, Josiah, Shira, and Isaac, and her granddaughter, Sophia. As well as her brother David Phelps as well as many relatives and friends.
