Leo "Bill"'s obituary
Leo “Bill” Lett, 76, of Collinsville, IL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2022.
Bill was born July 5, 1946, to Richard & Viola (nee Huskamp) in East St. Louis, IL.
Bill was a graduate of Assumption High School, Class of 1964. He was a proud veteran of the Marine Corps proudly serving in the Vietnam War and remaining a member of the Marine Corps Reserves following his discharge from active duty. His service earned him several citations including the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal.
In his free time, Bill loved searching for rare artifacts and antiques eventually becoming an antiquities dealer at various flea markets. He was a proud American and Marine but his experience in Vietnam forever changed him and drove him to dedicate many hours spending time with and around veterans. He devoted many hours visiting with wounded veterans over the years. He became a member of the American Legion Post 365 spending time with his fellow veterans playing bocce ball and riding his motorcycle in Veteran’s Day parades.
Bill is preceded in death by his son Richard Lett, mother Viola (nee Huskamp) Lett, father Richard Lett; his uncles Leroy Huskamp and Joe Lett.
Bill is survived by his wife, Patricia (nee Peoples) Lett, Collinsville, IL; sister, Judy Henley, O’Fallon, IL; his Stepdaughters, Jennifer (Peoples) Barhoumi, Jaimie (Peoples) Corradini and Jessica Peoples. Bill is also survived by numerous step grandchildren as well as many family members and close friends.
In keeping with his wishes, there will be a private burial of cremated remains at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Bill Lett to the Wounded Warrior Project.
Memorial Service: Wednesday, September 28, 2022, 11:00 a.m. American Legion Post 365, Collinsville, IL.
Officiating: Pastor Jeff Chamberlin of Copper Creek Christian Church
Interment: Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery
