Lenzy would have been 99 years old today. His March 10th buddies celebrated their birthday's and his memory this morning. Don 95, John 82, and Michael 78., reflected on the 42 years they have been meeting starting in Connecticut and traveling to Houston TX, Huntsville AL, Stanardsville VA, Annapolis MD, and Cornelius NC as members relocated. The birthday meet-ups continued via Zoom in response to travel challenges and the pandemic . It was great walking down memory lane with these gentlemen today.
Lenzy is still loved and very much missed.

Today was the second anniversary of Lenzy's passing. We miss him so much. Family and friends are walking this grief journey together. We celebrated his induction into the Ellington Town Wall of Fame. It was amazing to hear from former students and others he inspired more than 50 Years ago as a teacher and community member.
There is much written on the grief journey. The quote that speaks to me today :
"When someone that you love deeply dies, the calendar of your life is altered forever."
Peace, and be encouraged.

Celebration
I celebrate each day as a gift of life.
Saturday, April 1, 2023
Life may be full of stumbles and slips, but I celebrate each new day as a gift of life. I delight in meeting good people everywhere. In their faces, I see the image of God. In their wisdom amid daily struggles, I am inspired to do good work in a challenging world.
Just as our ancestors gathered to commemorate their experiences, I join with others to give thanks and mark the special moments. I celebrate birth, coming of age, marriage and family events, loss and mourning, and anniversaries personal and communal. All these and more have become part of my rhythm of existence.
I celebrate those who have passed yet remain in my heart. God is good; life is good. Loving memories linger. I celebrate life with gratitude.

Thinking of you Lenzy. Today would have been your 96th birthday. The March 10th Guys met via conference call this morning to celebrate the day and share memories. While you were missed, your presence will forever be a part of their memories.
When you hit 90 years old we just had to have two parties. One in Charlotte, NC pictured here, and the other in Connecticut. How blessed we all were to be able to celebrate together. I love you and miss you.

Lenzy was a trusting and kind soul. One of his traits was picking up strangers in distress .
We have a letter written to him 38 years ago from the late Philip Mikan of Westhersfield CT, thanking him for picking him up on Christmas Day 1983, stranded on Route 2 in freezing weather.
"The more I think about that frightfully cold night, the more I feel in debt to you for the tremendous favor you did for me. I still don't know what I would have done if you hadn't shown up, or if you drove past me. The end result would have been quite cold, to say the least. "....
Thank you!
