Lena's obituary

Lena Castellani Spinosi, of West Palm Beach FL since 2007, passed away unexpectedly on July 7th, 2020, which was her mother’s birthday. She was 89-years-old. Lena (Lee) is especially remembered as a sociable, beautiful, generous, stylish woman, who was passionate about family, friends, and travel. She traveled throughout much of the world, particularly during the years that she and her late husband, John, owned a travel agency.

Lee will be dearly missed by her family, whom she helped to navigate through the worst of times with her strength and courage. She was everyone's big sister - always sharing information and looking out for all she knew and loved through teaching and sharing in her own special way.

Lee Spinosi was born on January 13, 1931, in Peckville, PA, to Giuseppi L. Castellani and Giuseppina (Lisandrelli) Castellani, both born in Scheggia, in the Umbra region of Italy. The family then settled in Vineland, NJ; when Lee was seven, they moved to Scheggia, Italy, for a year, before returning to Vineland in 1939. She recently retraced her ancestry when she visited Gubbio and Scheggia in 2018.

Lee was a 1948 Vineland (NJ) High School graduate. She attended Business School in Camden, NJ, from 1948-1949, following which she worked for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company in Vineland from 1950 to 1962.

Lee married John (Jon) Spinosi in Malaga, NJ in 1950. In 1965, the couple founded Jon’s World Travel, a thriving travel agency in the small town of Pitman, NJ, which the couple owned until 1983. The couple, frequently along with their two daughters, was privileged to have had the opportunity to travel extensively throughout the world. Learning about new destinations and cultures captivated Lee and her home reflected her love of travel. The Spinosi’s were part owners of Scott Planning Co. Money Management.

In 2005, Lee moved to Weston FL, to be near her daughters and grandchildren, eventually settling in West Palm Beach in 2007, where she lived out the rest of her life.

Everyone who knew and loved Lee celebrated her extremely outgoing personality. She loved her sorority sisters and various clubs & memberships. Lee was a member of the St. James Lutheran Church in Pitman from 1961 until she moved to Florida in 2005. Lee was a Beta Sigma Phi service sorority sister for more than 50 years, both in New Jersey and Florida. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for more than 50 years, a member of the American Society of Travel Agents, and the Women's Club of Pitman, NJ. She was currently a congregant of the St. Michael Lutheran Church of Wellington, FL. She volunteered with the homeless at a soup kitchen. She was also a member of the Red Hats in Service, serving as Queen Bee in both New Jersey and Florida. Among her other pursuits were yoga, tai chi, and shopping.

Lee is survived by two beloved daughters, Donna Lee A. Spinosi (Marc S. Dobin) of Jupiter FL, and Jacque L. Spinosi of Weston FL; as well as her dearest friends in the world, her sisters, Rita Cook (Kemp Cook) and Val Meizinger (Robert Meizinger), her beloved sister-in-law, Lydia Spinosi, and her numerous nieces and nephews; and two beloved grandchildren, Alexander J. Dobin, and Michele J. Dobin, both of Kirkland, WA. She was predeceased by her husband, John (1984); four brothers; and her mother-in-law, Nadina Spinosi, with whom she was especially close.

The family asks that any donations be directed to the American Heart Association, her charity of choice since her husband’s passing. She will be cremated in Florida and her remains interred with her husband at Eglington cemetery in Sicklerville, New Jersey; a memorial service will be scheduled in New Jersey at a later date due to the Covid 19 pandemic.
