Leila Sami Khoury passed away peacefully on March 14, 2026, surrounded by loving family and friends.
Born in Damascus, Syria she was raised in Beirut, Lebanon and the Southside of Chicago. Leila later settled in Hickory Hills, Illinois, where she built a vibrant life centered around her faith, family, and connection with others.
She was the proud mother of Jessica, Jeffrey, and Gregory Barr, and the loving grandmother of Carter and Jade Barr. She is now reunited with her parents, Sami and Agnes Khoury, and many beloved relatives. She is survived by her sisters, Maha Khoury and Hala Sweiss, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and countless friends.
Leila attended A.A. Stagg High School and later pursued cosmetology at Capri Cosmetology School and John Amico School of Hair Design, where she later returned to teach. She had a natural gift for connecting with people and worked in sales and cosmetology throughout her life.
Leila will also be remembered for her love of music and her powerful voice, who brought joy and energy wherever she went. A woman of deep faith, she was always ready with a Bible verse encouraging that everything would be okay even if you didn't believe it yet.
Leila was devoted to family and was the primary caregiver for her parents in their later years, always showing up with love, patience, and compassion. Leila will be remembered for her generosity, strength, humor, and the way she always made people feel seen, loved, and supported.
