A Legacy of Creativity and Love

Leigh Hutton Hooper passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026 surrounded by her loved ones. 

Born in Morgantown, West Virginia to Thomas Leroy Hooper Jr. and Carolyn Mary Cohoe, Leigh was described as the light of their lives. Growing up in Maplewood, New Jersey she was known for her kindness and fondly remembers her Columbia High School class.

She attended culinary school after high school and also continued her education later in life at George Mason University. Her passions were quilting, cooking, and any and all kinds of artwork which shaped her into a resilient and expressive person.

Leigh was married to Steven Matthew Darcy for 19 years and they had three children together. Leigh was a fiercely devoted mother to Phillip Thomas Hooper Darcy, Elizabeth J. H. Darcy Lasley, and Abigail Marlene Hooper Darcy. Her community will always remember her help with all of the organizations her children were involved in. Later in life she continued her career working with children throughout the Fauquier County Public School system, most recently at H. M. Pearson where she showed patience and love to all those she came in contact with.

She is survived by; her son, Phillip Thomas Hooper Darcy; her Daughter in Law, Hannah Sterling Burress Darcy (née McGurk); three grand children, Julia Thérèse Darcy, Daniel Joachim Darcy, Celia Rose Darcy; her daughter, Elizabeth Jane Hooper Darcy Lasley; her son in law, Ryan Parker Lasley; and her daughter Abigail Marlene Hooper Darcy. 

Services will be held at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Catlett, Virginia on Saturday, February 28th at 11:00AM. 

Another service will be held in Maplewood, New Jersey later in March. We will update with those details as they are confirmed.
