Lee's obituary
Lee was raised in a musical family, was an accomplished singer, and was exceedingly artistic and creative. She spent many years with the Valley Forge Sweet Adelines—singing both in the chorus and in barbershop quartets—and was an award-winning singer, vocal coach, and music arranger. She wrote stories and poetry and loved to craft and draw. She was a member of Royal Palm Presbyterian Church and loved making beautiful music with the congregation!
Lee creatively used her many talents in a variety of careers, which included acting, theater set design, teaching elementary school music, working as a country club receptionist, and serving as a senior care provider. She freely shared her smile with everyone and made friends wherever she went.
One of her favorite trips for many years was to Tennessee for the annual “Barn Bash” hosted by David Phelps, an American Christian music vocalist. She was a “Phelps Phan” and loved to share her many fun stories from those trips. She also adored the British singing group Collabro, not only their music but the friendships she developed within their community.
Above all, Lee loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, to whom she will always be known affectionately as “Momom.”
She is survived by her daughters Carrie Dorman (Ross), Katherine Garnett (Grady), and Kimberly Golart (Justin), seven grandchildren (Michael, Grace, and Sean Dorman; Tyler and Logan Garnett; and Lydia and Miles Golart), her sister Barbara Allen (Jeff) and many nieces and nephews.
Lee was predeceased by her parents Elizabeth and Edwin R. Ashmore, Jr., and brother James Ashmore. Her brother Edwin R. Ashmore III passed shortly after her.
A private memorial service will be held on August 23, 2020, at the Royal Palm Presbyterian Church in Lake Worth, Florida. To celebrate her life, donations in her name can be made to the charity of your choice.
