Ledell's obituary

December 17th, 1933, Ledell “Lee” Washington was born of Ruby Lee and Samuel Washington in Feliciana

Parish, Louisiana. During his early years, he learned the art of farming, southern cooking, and laboring.

Many of these early skill sets aided throughout his life’s endeavors.

Growing up in the country he became skillful in prepping and arranging edible delights from coon-stew, turtle

soup, possum pie, crawdads, and creole gumbo. Country life was great, but it also had some challenges and

unwelcome temptations. He often shared the story of when at the tender age of 12 he was introduced to

fermented moonshine and tobacco. Fortunately, his grandmother intervened to persuade him to surrender to

that lifestyle. As a means of diverting his attention, she increased his chores, which included working him from

sun-up to sun-down and keeping an eagle eye.

At the age of 17, his decision to do and become better was aided by the blessings of his grandmother who he

relocated to San Francisco, California, and never regretted that decision.

As a means of support, he skillfully learned the trade of building scaffolds.

His love for God and discipleship led him to join Double Rock, COGIC. There he met and married Marie

Magdalene. Although only completed the 3rd grade, he fathered, richly, and successfully raised a family of nine

children. He was best known for either going to work or coming home from work with a tool belt strapped

around his waist.

He firmly believed in 2 Thessalonians 3:10. He joined the Carpenter's Union as a craftsman and worked as a

foreman on many sites. As a day laborer, there were times when it was harder to find jobs based on weather

conditions. During those times of scarcity, he could be heard praying before sunset, asking God for clear and

precise direction for creative ways to support his family. On one occasion he was led to a wrecking site, the

duty was to clean the debris from bricks. His keen foresight gathered all his children, and quickly taught the

skill of increasing revenue. It was the first sign of child labor, and his children learned the mindset of strong

work ethics. As a businessman before credit cards were invented, he built a strong friendship with the

neighborhood market, opened a credit account with the merchant, and assured to pay all debts according to their

agreement. He followed the biblical principles of being a businessman in all things.

The prosperity of his hard work gave him the opportunity to own many homes in the Bayview district of San

Francisco.

A Self-taught musician, Lee displayed his passionate for lifting his praise to His Lord, Savior, and Redeemer

Jesus Christ. His skillset on piano and guitar was enjoyed by many. Ordained by COGIC, he pastored Ebenezer

church for over 15 years. Minister Ledell Washington loved people who gave him favor as both pastor and

street Minister. He practiced James 5:16 praying for the sick and afflicted.

He never wavered from his Faith.

After serving over 40 years in the profession of construction he began pastoring a second church in Trinity,

Texas.

He completed adult learning centers and received the Mary Etta Fagan Scholarship in 2011.

He earned other various awards for his dedication and community support including two certificates of Merit in

2011 and 2012.

His faith guided him to attend the Calvary Apostolic Church in San Francisco (2014 – 2021) where he enhanced

his theological studies, given several honorable recognition rewards including a lifetime prayer warrior award

and the title of Elder. Throughout his life, he continued visiting those who were shut-in; nursing homes and

hospitals praying and encouraging them of God’s hope and deliverance. As an Elder he continued to work with

local pastors in the Bayview area preaching the words of God to Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean

not to your own understanding; in all your ways submit, acknowledge God and He will direct your paths

Proverbs 3:5-6.

The ministerial warrior, mentor, and protective father, loving husband of his late wife, friend to the community

of many nationalities, adoring great-grandfather, and experienced extreme health challenges in 2019. Prayer and

the strong support of his family sustained him for many years.

He surrendered from this world on April 14, 2024.

He is joined by his mother Ruby Lee, his late-loving wife Marie Magdalene, and a host of aunts, cousins, and

friends.

He is survived by nine children to cherish his memories: Loretta, Martha, Ledell, Juanita, Olethia, Michael,

Linda, Marie, and Eugene. Five grandchildren Yusef, Michael, Charitie, Chastitie, Charles, son-in-law: Larry,

great-son-in-law: Mustafa, thirteen great-grandchildren. Four dear nieces Doris, Elaine, and Sunda, and a host

of family and friends in Virginia, New Orleans, and Texas.

Although departed from this life but never forgotten, and forever missed.
