Leatta's obituary

Leatta Poole passed away on January 5, 2021 after trying to recover from surgery and illness. She put up a brave battle and was a trooper till the end. After spending 8 days in hospice she gained her eternal rest surrounded by loved ones. She was born on January 16th, 1968 in Charleston, South Carolina to Rufus Poole and Dorothy Singleton Poole. She made stops in South Carolina and California. Since her father’s military orders stationed him at Mayport, the family made Florida their home. Leatta grew up in Atlantic Beach and Ponte Vedra Beach. She made many many memories living at the beaches. After graduating from Allen D Nease High School, she went on to begin her life. She started working, had a family and making many lasting friends along the way.

She landed her first jobs at Fox Meyer Pharmaceutical and Publix in the bakery. She always brought home sweets. (especially the chocolate eclairs and glazed donuts) No matter where she worked, everyone loved and enjoyed her. Besides having her regular family, she also had a family at Florida Blue. She became a permanent part of the company for over 22 years. Lea was passionate about her career and was a force in her field.

Leatta leaves behind her two children: Mario and Breanna Baker whom she really loved and were her #1 always. She also had two grandchildren: Kaedyn and Kaleb. They really loved their grammy and would always run straight to her and give hugs, kisses and head rubs.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, James and Helen Singleton and her other grandmother (dads mom) Elizabeth Askew and many other family members. She is survived by her parents, Rufus and Dorothy Poole, her brother Hal (Gina) Poole, her two sisters Charlene (Liddell) Pope, Latrice Poole, her children Breanna and Mario Baker; her grandchildren and neices Tamika (Fred) Taylor and Shalonda (Todd) Washington.

Leatta also leaves behind her best friend and children’s father, Emmitt (Leslie) Baker and a host of many other relatives and friends.

We as a family most definitely want to thank Judy Jones for being by Latrice’s side every step of the way while caring for her sister, Leatta. Even making visits when Latrice wasn’t able to go.

Thank you to all of Leatta’s friends she made along the way.

We are thankful for all for the cards and well wishes we have received.
