Layton's obituary
Layton Stewart, a man who lived life to the fullest, passed away peacefully on March 1, 2025 surrounded by his wife Juliann and daughter Helen. If you knew Layton, you knew he was one of a kind! Born December 4,1936 to Jess and Charlotte (Loesch) Stewart. He grew up in Marion, Ohio surrounded by a brother Frank, and sister Marguerite, as well as numerous cousins. Layton attended George Williams College (Chicago) and graduated from Kent State University. At college he met a group of men that were not only on the swim team together, they raised a ruckus, and remained lifelong friends.
After college Layton enlisted in the US Army and served in the Intelligence Corp in Germany while the Berlin Wall was being built. He had an interesting life of different jobs from fueling airplanes and driving taxis in Chicago, weighed lobsters in a meat packing company, and was a YMCA Director. He was top salesman in many companies, started his own Dental Management consultancy, and then built a successful Amway business where he mentored numerous people.
Layton met Juliann in Columbus Ohio and after only dating two weeks, decided they should get married. They moved to Connecticut and were active in the Jaycees and Layton joined the Big Brothers program, making a difference in the life of a little brother. After four years they moved back to Ohio with daughter Helen. Layton was always excited to be a part of anything that she did throughout her life. He enjoyed racquetball, swimming and running. He was always active and drove Julie and Helen crazy at the beach always planning more things to do, he could never just sit and enjoy the ocean. Layton had a love for travel and was always eager to go on trips both nationally and international visiting numerous countries during his lifetime.
Layton and Julie moved to Colorado in 2011 to be closer to Helen and a year later he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. Through the years, he kept his positive attitude, kindness, generosity, and sense of humor. He loved people – helping them, throwing parties, being active, and going on adventures. He had a fierce love for his family and wasn’t afraid to show or vocalize that.
Julie and Helen will miss his spirit of living - his motto was “ask for forgiveness not permission” which got him into trouble many times but made for great stories. His friends remember him for antics on the ski slopes, swimming pool, and neighborhood parties. He loved his family the most and his face would light up whenever Helen was around. He and Julie had a forever love, married for 57 years, and she was honored to be his care partner at their home throughout his Parkinson's journey. We know that he is at peace and now free of any limitations Parkinson's had on him.
The Ohio celebration of life will be held on June 14th at 2pm at the Williams Street United Methodist Church 28 W. William St, Delaware, OH 43015 where all will be welcomed.
