Lawrence's obituary

Lawrence “Larry” Edward Wehling, age 77, a longtime resident of Carol Stream, passed peacefully on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on August 28, 1947, to Clarence Gordon Wehling and Lorraine Wehling (nee Stegman). As a boy, Larry grew up on Chicago’s South Side, later moving to Elk Grove Village, and graduated from Forest View High School in 1965. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam era, specializing as an airframe mechanic. After serving honorably, he returned to the Chicagoland area, where he worked in the Sheet Metal industry for over 40 years. He was a proud member of Sheet Metal Workers Local 115 and 73. He was employed by Binks Manufacturing in Franklin Park for over 25 years and afterwards spent the remainder of his career working for the Chicago Transit Authority until his retirement in 2014.

Larry enjoyed Hot Rods and classic cars, his loyal canine companions, but most of all he enjoyed the good times he spent with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his quick wit, generosity, never ending search for a good deal, and his innate ability to fix just about anything. Always a perfectionist, Larry found joy in crafting and repairing items to precise standards, especially his prized ’49 Chevy Pickup Truck.

Larry is survived by his three children: Heather (Paul) of Carol Stream, David (Victoria) of California, and Matthew (Caitlin) of Pennsylvania; Grandchildren Steven and Sarah Wehling; his brothers Donald (Maureen) Wehling and Kenneth (Teresa) Wehling; Nephews Eric Wehling, Timothy Wehling, Jeffrey Wehling, and Niece Diane Wehling.

A celebration of Larry’s life will be held on Friday, May 30, 2025, from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Bucaro Funeral Home, 485 W. Army Trail Rd., Bloomingdale, IL 60108. Gathering to follow at Portillo’s, 235 E. North Ave, Glendale Heights, IL 60139. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Larry’s name to the ASPCA or American Lung Association.
