Lawrence William Schneiderwind, (Larry), 12/23/40-8/28/22, Age 81.

Died of a heart attack, at home in Plano, Texas.

Air Force 7/6/63-7/5/67.

Born in Jacksonville, Florida to Harriet Jackson Schneiderwind & Oscar William Schneiderwind (Bill), Siblings Gerry Schneiderwind Brown & Barry Schneiderwind.

Larry left behind his loving wife of 49 years, Kathleen (Pidgeon) Schneiderwind, sons Michael and Kevin (Logan Long) and grandson, Thomas.

Larry graduated from Omaha Central HS, U of N, (EE Degree), IU. Plus other degrees and certificates.

His career included  working at:  Tele-Signal Corp. , Texas Instruments, Magnavox, ITT, Nimitz H.S.

Larry was an Electrical Engineer, an Inventor, a System Analyst, a Manager & a Teacher.

Larry’s passions included Chess & a good debate. At one time, he achieved the rank of Master in Chess.  Computers came naturally for him & guided his career.

Larry was proud of his early prototype of the GPS displayed in the Smithsonian.

Gerry’s funeral tribute:

Larry was my big brother. He entered the world unexpectedly & extremely early. Dad was on leave from the Army;  he & Mom were vacationing in Jacksonville, Florida. Larry weighed a little over 5 pounds.

Larry was a genius. Because he was so smart, he started school early. He was young & small compared to his classmates. In H.S., he played the Sousaphone in the marching band. I remember a Newspaper Article featuring pictures of him, “the little boy with the big horn.”

Even though he enjoyed learning, he did not like to study. I remember his words, “I am smart, why should I have to prove it to anyone.” He shocked his H.S. teachers when he was getting C’s & D’s and then earned the highest score on the Nebraska Regions Exam . When confronted by his teacher’s, he quipped, “Can I help it if I have an aptitude for taking aptitude tests?” His grades became A’s & B’s when he was made to apply himself.

Larry was 5 years my senior.  When he returned from his first year in college, he pulled me aside and said, “I know our parents taught us that people are basically good, but I have met someone who is evil through & through. I am telling you this so you don’t get hurt by someone like Lori.”

Larry was a genius. He had an inquisitive mind. He carried a notebook filled with descriptions of his numerous inventions. One of his inventions was an early prototype of the GPS; it was on display at the Smithsonian for years. Another of his inventions was related to Intercontinental Communication Systems.

Larry was an Electrical Engineer, a computer/manager/specialist, a teacher & more.

Larry loved his family: his loyal wife, Kathy, his two sons, Michael & Kevin, his daughter in law, Logan, & his Grandson, Thomas, “the Apple of his eye”. He was proud of “his 3 boys”, Thomas took the limelight.

Another passion of his was chess; he played 44,105 games on one website.  At one time, he reached the rank of Master.

He also enjoyed Parasailing & Skiing.

Computers were his passion.

Larry was never judgmental,  but he had a “stubborn streak”. He had a great sense of humor & loved practical jokes. He also enjoyed learning & debating global warming & climate change.

In the Military, he was a sharp shooter. This skill was reflected when he shoot skeet.

Larry was born on December 23 & Mom always said, he was the best Christmas gift she ever got. We all agreed.
