I remember when my uncle Lawrence came down to stay with my parents and I, he got me into biking and we rode all over the neighborhood. There was this house sized depression in the dirt outside the neighborhood where we would take scrap and junk we found and make it the basis for ramps to jump our bikes off of, our own little biking park, it’s a very fond memory of mine that I wouldn’t trade for the world. I was so scared to do even the smallest jumps but he was always so brave and encouraging. He helped me to learn to conquer my fears, to get up and dust myself off if I fell, and to never let go of that childlike joy and wonder he had. Back then was the only time I ever spent with him in person and to this very day I still remember his eyes, his smile, how full of joy and caring they were, and the way they twinkled when he talked about how he’d keep working on our little biking park, how we’d get concrete and metal for it, how we’d make it a real Bike Park. We never did get to make that little dream a reality, but even so that big depression in the ground was, is, and always will be our bike park, now and forever.

Rest in peace Uncle Lawrence, you were always brave no matter how hard things got and you never stopped fighting.
