Skip's obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lawrence "Skip" Carastro, who left this world on March 31, 2024. Known with affection as Skip, he was born on the 8th of December, 1951, infusing the world with his big-hearted presence for over 72 years.
Skip lived life to the fullest and was best known for his caring, kind, loving, compassionate, enthusiastic, and encouraging nature. His unwavering sense of generosity made him a pillar of strength for those around him. He had an unwavering passion for giving and brought a radiant light to any room he entered.
One of the most defining chapters of Skip's life was his inspiring academic journey. Despite getting into Georgia Tech at the age of 40, he never let age be a barrier to his dreams. With an unstoppable spirit, he earned his Bachelor's degree in 1995, followed by a Master's degree in 1997, and eventually his PhD in 2002. His journey was not just a testament to his dedication, but also embodied his belief that with hard work and perseverance, one can achieve anything.
His legacy, marked by kindness, generosity, and as an outstanding role model, will continue to inspire others. He was a constant advocate of following one's dreams and never giving up, no matter the odds. Those who were fortunate enough to have known him were deeply touched by his bold spirit and his consistent push towards making a difference.
Skip was preceded in death by his loving parents Lawrence and Jeanne Carastro. He is survived by his loving wife Sheri Carastro who shared many wonderful, adventurous years with him. Their continuous saying to one another was, "Well, we're off on another adventure!!" He is also survived by his siblings: Peggy Disner; Gayle Kersten and her husband Michael; and Connie Darby and her husband Evan. He will always be remembered by his many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and will also be singularly remembered and profoundly missed by everyone whose lives he touched with his warm, persistent, and loving nature. As we bid farewell to Skip, we keep his inspiring life lessons close to our hearts and strive to live by them in his honor.
While the sadness of this loss is profound, we find comfort in remembering the vibrance and joy that defined Skip's life. His memory will forever be cherished by his dear ones, as they strive to honor his legacy of love and resilience.
