Lavena's obituary
It is with sad hearts that the family of Joy Humphrey Waterhouse announces her passing on 12/20/22.
Joy was born on 5/7/1933 in Grant City Missouri to John and Emma Motsinger. She lived on a farm in Northern Missouri with her parents and three brothers until the age of 15 when the family moved west in 1948. They eventually settled near Jasper Oregon.
She met her first husband, Elton Humphrey while attending Pleasant Hill High school. They married after she graduated from school and raised 4 children in the Jasper and Pleasant Hill area.
She later began a career in real estate, becoming a broker and opening her own office. During this time, Joy met, and married Gary Waterhouse. They worked together in real estate until moving to Alaska in 1984.
While living in Anchorage , she worked in the accounting department at Spenard building supply. She enjoyed fishing trips for salmon and halibut and spotting Dall sheep on the steep slopes of Turnagain arm south of Anchorage.
They left Alaska and moved to Mansfield Missouri to be near their close friends. She enjoyed watching all the wildlife on their property from the deck of their home.
In 2004, they moved to Prairie City in Eastern Oregon where again she made many friends. Many people have said joy never met a stranger and she touched the lives of countless people.
After Gary passed away, Joy moved to Springfield to be near her family. Somewhere along her journey she developed a love for owls. Her collection numbered at least 1000 figurines, wall hangings, jewelry, pillows, etc., filling every niche in her home.
Joys boundless energy, smile and hugs will be missed.
Joy is survived by a brother, Clyde Motsinger of Eugene, sons Jerry Humphrey of Bend, John Humphrey of Waldport, and daughter’s Teresa Peterson of Pleasant Hill, Debra Humphrey of Springfield, stepson Greg Waterhouse of Hillsboro, and stepdaughters, Cindy Wheeler of Washougal Washington, and Cheri Belcher of Portland.
