Dee's obituary

Lavaldia “Dee” Irene Chalmers-McGinnis peacefully passed away on August 20, 2021 in Medford Oregon after a long battle with many ailments. Dee was born on April 23, 1962 to Leland James and Joan Freida Chalmers. She grew up in the family home on olive barber rd in the small town of Coos bay Oregon. She helped raise many different types of animals alongside her siblings, and had a large garden that she helped tend to. Dee was always willing to help in any way she could from preserving foods with her mother or baby sitting for other family members and friends.

Later in life Dee went on to graduate from marshfield high school class of 1980. She was extremely strong academically throughout her life, volunteering in classrooms and libraries, and assisting with clerical work.

Her caring nature for others led her to work in the nursing field at saint Catherine’s retirement facility where she cared for ill and elderly patients as a CNA for many years. After that venture, she found her true passion working for the state of Oregon as a human services specialist for almost 20 years. Dee loved and cared for all of her many clients and co workers.

Dee was married to Patrick James McGinnis on August 15th 1987, together they had 3 children, Steven (32), Mathew (29), and Amanda (27). Dee was a loving and caring mother to all of her children. She loved spending time with all of her family at any opportunity she had.

Dee is survived in death by late husband Patrick, all three children, 3 grand children, James McGinnis, Aubrey Reid-McGinnis, and Cameron Woods, brother Leslee, sister Deborah, and many other family members whom she loved and cherished deeply.

Dee is predeceased by both parents, older brothers Lonnie, Leland “butch”, and Larry. Granddaughter Sydney woods, grandson Alexander Colvin-McGinnis, and many other family members and friends whom she loved and missed, and is now re acquainted with.

Dee will be greatly missed by all who knew her as she made impacts on every life she touched.
