It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Ms. Laurita "Laura" Perry of Parker, CO on August 18, 2025. 

Our beloved mother, Laura, was one of the most courageous, compassionate, and resilient women to ever walk this earth. Her strength of character, generosity of spirit, and unwavering love for her family left a mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. To her children, she was everything—our guide, our protector, our comfort, and our greatest supporter. We loved her beyond measure and will carry her in our hearts for the rest of our lives.

Laura’s life was marked by a deep sense of purpose and a fierce determination to follow her own path, no matter the obstacles. Born in Orange City, Iowa in 1953, she graduated from the Hawkeye Institute of Technology in 1974 with a degree in police science, and in May of 1975, she proudly earned her Bachelor of Arts degree from Wartburg College. At a time when few women were welcomed into law enforcement, Laura fearlessly pursued her dream. When she found that police departments in Iowa were unwilling to hire women, she made the bold and life-changing decision to move to Colorado—a testament to her courage and belief in her calling. There, she worked for both Jefferson County and Arapahoe County police departments, making her mark as a capable and dedicated officer.

But perhaps Laura’s greatest ambition wasn’t her professional career—it was to be a mother. She often said that being a mother was one of her most cherished wishes, and she fulfilled that role with extraordinary grace, strength, and devotion. She adopted two children and, in 1989, gave birth to a third. Wanting to be present in their daily lives while continuing to support her family, Laura left police work behind and opened a home daycare. It was yet another expression of her selflessness and her fierce love for children—both her own and those she cared for. When her own children had grown, Laura pursued childcare in the public school system, working in after school care programs and later becoming a paraprofessional over what would be a 15-year career in the Douglas County School system. 

Through every chapter of her life, Laura showed us what it meant to love unconditionally, to work hard, to speak up for what’s right, and to never give up on your dreams. She was not only a remarkable mother but also a trailblazer, a nurturer, and a woman of immense heart and integrity. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and most of all, in the children who were blessed to call her "Mom."

We will never be able to fill the space left behind by her.

Per Laura's last wishes, no service is to be held.

Her ashes will be planted beneath a tree in the home of her children.
