Laurie's obituary

Laurie was, without a doubt, the kindest soul. She had a profound care for others, always thinking about their feelings, their needs, and how she could make their lives just a bit better. Her empathy was boundless, and it extended to everyone she met.

One of the greatest joys in Laurie’s life was her love for children and animals. No matter how tough her days were or how much she struggled with MS, she would light up at the sight of a child or a furry friend. They brought her immense happiness and joy, a testament to her enduring spirit and resilience.

Laurie taught us all so much about strength and perseverance. Despite the challenges of her illness, she faced each day with dignity and grace, rarely allowing her struggles to overshadow her positivity. Her ability to remain pleasant and encouraging, even in discomfort, was truly inspiring.

In her life, Laurie embraced everything with a zest that was uniquely hers. She had a passion for fashion and hair, always eager to help others look and feel their best. She made everyone feel welcome and had an incredible talent for striking up conversations with anyone, asking questions with genuine curiosity and interest.

Laurie coordinated a group of women (a mix of family, friends, and neighbors) affectionately named the Sassy Sisterhood.  They got together each week for a movie, lunch, cleaning, letting each other win at cards, or simply talking and supporting each other. Laurie said this group helped provide her with great purpose despite the ups and downs of MS.

Laurie was deeply appreciative of every gesture of kindness and every helping hand she received. Her gratitude was constant and heartfelt, and she never missed an opportunity to say thank you or express her love.

In her final days, Laurie shared with us two powerful lessons. First, she reminded us that we can never be too kind, for we never truly know what others are going through. And second, she urged us to be proactive in helping those around us, to get up and make a difference.

As we say goodbye, Laurie would want you to know that if you ever see a pink butterfly or a lightning bug, it is her way of making her presence known. Let these symbols remind you of her message—to be kind, to show resilience, and to cherish the strength within us all.

Laurie’s legacy is one of immense kindness, strength, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her spirit will continue to inspire us, and her lessons will live on in our hearts.

She was a loving wife to her husband, John. A devoted mom to her children, Tiffany and Tyler (Kaitlyn Doane). She said in her final days that being a Mom and taking care of her house made her so happy.

She is survived by her parents, Karen and Pete Christensen. Her mother-in-law, Barb Wisnieski. Her siblings, Cathy (Dawn), Lisa (Dennis), and Kevin (Bonnie). John’s siblings, Robert (Jenny) and Catherine (Matt). Laurie is predeceased by her brother, Carl and his son, Jason, her father-in-law, Denny, and her brother-in-law, David (Kelli).

Laurie has so many nieces and nephews that she loved with all her heart and soul.
