Laurie's obituary

In Loving Memory of Laurie E. Wickson (1954–2024)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Laurie E. Wickson, aged 69, of Oakdale, Connecticut. Laurie left us peacefully on February 16, 2024, after battling a brief illness and ultimately lung cancer. Born on October 2, 1954, in New London, Connecticut, Laurie was the cherished daughter of Marilyn and Stuart Wickson, both of whom predeceased her.

She attended Robert E. Fitch High School, where she was an honor society recipient, graduating in the class of 1972. Laurie's passion for science led her to the University of Connecticut, where she earned her degree in Medical Technology. Laurie was a devout member of the Temple Emanu-El congregation in Waterford.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her children, David, Michael, and Danielle; her beloved grandchildren, Hunter, Haley, Mateo, and Maya; her sisters, Penny and Susan; and her cousin, Becky. Laurie's role as a mother, grandmother, sister, and cousin was imbued with love, and lessons that her family will carry forward.

An avid gardener, Laurie found peace and joy in the beauty of nature. Her various gardens and plantings around her home were a testament to her care, patience, and creativity, blossoming with colors. Laurie was also a talented quilter, with each stitch reflecting her attention to detail and her love for creating warmth and comfort for others. Her handmade Raggedy Ann and Andy toys, many of which were donated to children in need, brought smiles and solace to countless young hearts.

While we mourn her loss, we also celebrate Laurie's remarkable life. Though her burial will be private, a celebration of Laurie's life will be held at a later date, where friends, family, and those whose lives she touched can come together to honor her memory.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages those wishing to honor Laurie's memory to consider supporting the Arbor Day Foundation. A living tribute in the form of a tree planting would be a meaningful gesture that reflects Laurie's love for nature and her belief in the importance of growth, and the beauty of life. Contributions can be made through the Arbor Day Foundation's Commemorative Trees program, which can be found at https://shop.arborday.org/com…. By planting a tree in her memory, we can ensure that Laurie's legacy continues to flourish and touch lives for generations to come.

Rest in peace, Laurie. Your light will forever shine in the hearts of those you've left behind, and now, through the trees planted in your memory, your spirit will continue to grow.
