Lauren's obituary
It is with great reverence that we announce the passing of Lauren "Laurie" Clarice Larsen (nee Young), who left this earthly realm on December 7, 2022, one week before her 71st birthday, at the Big Bend Hospice house with her daughter by her side. Born to Judge Warren H. Young (RIP 1981) and Laura Roberts (RIP 1991) on the island of St. Croix, USVI, Lauren lived a rich life, filled with wonder, travel-lust, and boundless creativity.
Lauren is survived by me, her loving daughter, Shanin Speas-Frost, her teenage grandchilden, Lita and Xander Frost, and her son-in-law, Andrew Frost. She also leaves behind her caring brothers, Tim Young, Gar Young, Rodney Young, and Jonathan Young as well as a sister-in-law, Priscilla Serafin, and several neices and nephews, Becca Young, Ethan Young, Sonja Lavangie, Jens Lawaetz and Lorin Fowler. She also cherished the love and lifelong friendships of her (former) siblings-in-law, Caron Speas, Robin Speas, Panna Cappelli and Rachel Woodruff. Lauren was predeceased earlier in the year by her sweet sister, Deborah Young, as well as her ex-husband, my father, Rand Speas, whose memory she caried close to her heart, back in 2011.
Lauren's inquisitive nature was evident in her passion for reading and her interest in learning the history of the places she visited and the people who lived there. She thrived on adventures and cherished the opportunity to travel, often with her beloved dog, Teddy (RIP 2022), by her side. Lauren was admired for her thought-provoking and clever personality, which touched the lives of those around her.
Leaving behind a legacy of endless compassion for all things on earth and a spiritual curiosity, Lauren's memory will be cherished by all who knew her. She believed in being kind to one another, to animals, as well as to the earth itself. Her empathetic spirit will live on in the hearts and actions of her cherished friends and loved ones as they continue to follow her example.
We honor Lauren's life and her commitment to spreading love and kindness, and it is our hope that her memory will serve as a reminder of the power of timeless wunderlust and understanding in this world.
