With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Laura Karma Luana Maez Kaufusi, age 41, on Friday, December 27, 2024. Laura passed peacefully at home in Cottonwood Heights, surrounded by her loved ones, after a long and courageous battle with heart and kidney failure.

Born on December 28, 1982, in Provo, Utah, to Tofa Robert Keith Maez and Emma Maez, Laura grew up with a deep love for her family and a vibrant personality that touched everyone she met. On November 10, 2011, she married her best friend, Simone Kaufusi, and together they built a beautiful life and family full of love, laughter, and adventure.

Laura had a way of lighting up any room. Whether she was telling one of her funny stories, laughing loudly, or flashing her bright smile, she made everyone around her feel welcome and valued. She had a special love for Christmas movies, photography, and creating art. She cherished time spent with family and friends, and no one left her presence without feeling special. Laura had an eye for fashion and loved good food. Thoughtful and generous, she was always the one to bring something meaningful when she saw someone. Her kindness, encouraging words, and uplifting spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Laura is survived by her loving husband, Simone Kaufusi, and their children: Tonga Kaufusi (grandson Ammon Erbin), Robert Kaufusi (wife Seini Kaufusi), Ulaiasi Kaufusi, Siueli Kaufusi, Kelepi Kaufusi, and Moroni Kaufusi. She is also survived by her mother Emma Maez, grandmother Martha Maez, and siblings: Janice (Sam) Ripley, Clovis (Amber) Maez, Darling Rodriguez, Ray Maez, Emmadora (Ben) Willis, Steven (Ayessa) Maez, and Cheyanne (Matthew) Andersen. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, and cousins who will carry her memory in their hearts forever.

She was preceded in death by many loved ones, including her father Tofa Robert Keith Maez, beloved sisters Martha Kaufusi and Apaula Matagi, and her beautiful daughter Baby Martha Kaufusi.
