Laura first got diagnosed while I was recovering from my cancer. That definitely bonded us more after having only known her casually for decades. Her friendship and support is greatly missed!

Coach Laura was one of my best friends my senior year. She was a new coach to me and we were instant friends. She always took us to sweet restaurants and on an incredible training trip to Key Largo. She made my senior year swim season so special. We would always sit next to each other at restaurants, order the seafood, and talk music. I loved that she wore her chacos on deck every day. She was one of the coolest women I'll ever meet. Sending so much love to her family and friends!
There are some people who leave a lasting mark on your heart. Coach Laura was an inspiration to young growing people and it has changed us all for the best. It wasn’t just about what she was coaching but how she did it. She was fiercely loyal to her students overall well-being and showed passionate kindness at every moment. I was a young teenager when I got the opportunity to meet and work with her. I am now an educator and strive to bring the same joy and mentorship to my students. Thank you Coach Laura for helping all of us to become our best selves.

LT, my sweet friend. We've know each other since the 80s. My boyfriend at the time Mike Sachs was good friends with Jimmy Smith and we introduced him to Laura. You could see it happening it was instant. I knew you were fighting hard to be here, I always thought I would see you again. You can rest now and be at peace and always smiling. Love you always ❤️ See you one day 🌹

I am so sorry to hear about Laura’s passing. I am very grateful that I got to work with her at Morgan County Middle School. She was a delightful lady  and a wonderful teacher! Prayers for peace and comfort for all who loved her.

Coach Laura was my very first Coach. The same with many of my siblings. If there is one word to describe her…. Passion. She was loud, she was funny, she was intense, but most of all she was competitive and caring. My older siblings definitely got a few more years with her than I did. The Deer Run Dolphins were unstoppable under her leadership. I personally only got to experience two years of coaching under her, but she laid the foundation of my competitive spirit. I remember several times her getting down eye level with me as a young boy and pouring positivity into me. She manufactured great swimmers. After she left, I continued swimming all the way to my junior year in high school. We had a statewide swim meet at UGA my freshman year in high school. That’s when I saw a familiar face. Coach Laura. Despite it being 10 years later…she recognized me. It was big smiles and big hugs. I was sitting in the bullpen preparing for my 200 yard IM and she came up behind me and just gave me a rub on the shoulders. Like she had always been my coach. I remember her saying “I know a Fair when I see one”…. For the short time she was in my life it was extremely impactful. I love you Coach Laura. I can see her now in the clouds, shouting through her bullhorn. She was the best coach I ever had. My condolences to the family. Her spirit lives on through the hundreds of lives she touched. Every Kid deserves a Coach Laura. ❤️❤️❤️
Heart broken to know the world is without “Coach Laura.” She was the reason so many of us loved swimming. She always made it fun, we could always count on her to cheer us on, with her LOUD whistle and a smile! She was with so many of us as we grew up and I feel so lucky to have known her.
