Laura's obituary
Laura Ann Bruce was born in San Diego, Ca on June 10,1964 to the parents of Robert Hardie and Pamela Mae Benson.
Laura loved three things in life: Spending time with family, friends, loving on her animals and cooking. Laura is survived by two loving families: her parents, Bob and Pam, two siblings, Barbara and Richard and two sons, Christopher and Stephen. As with most families she had her ups and downs but she loved her family even when she was annoyed at mom for whooping her butt at Bubbles IQ! Her second family was her husband Mark and his three children, Daniel, Rebecca and Marissa.
Growing up a military brat gave Laura a unique perspective on the world and a love for adventure and people. Laura loved to meet new people and do her own thing. She had a great sense of humor and loved a good joke. Laura's life was not always easy. She endured traumatic events at an early age that set her up for a lifetime of pain and depression. Even through her pain and depression she was known to put others ahead of herself. She would walk out of a grocery store with a full meal and hand it to a homeless person in need. She would give you the clothes off her back if you needed it more than her.
Laura received her GED in her 30’s and went on to become a certified nursing assistant. She loved helping people. Laura worked as a short order cook and an online magazine sales clerk. Laura had three best friends Donna Rudder, Bev Narog and Cheryl Barrett.
22 years ago while working in a laundromat she met the love of her life Mark Bruce. Two years later they were married. Mark had three wonderful children from a previous marriage Rebecca, Daniel and Marissa. Laura loved them as much as her own two sons Christopher and Stephen. While she never really had the chance to raise her kids she did a wonderful job helping to raise Mark's three children.
Over the years Laura started to have more health issues which prevented her from working on a regular basis. Eventually she ended up on disability. She spent the last few years of her life taking care of her husband and her animals.
Laura had a love for animals that was beyond all measure. She tried to instill in her youngest step daughter the same love for animals as well. She believed that a love for animals led to a nurturing personality.
She loved her animals so much that in the end she had three dogs, four cats and countless chickens! The chickens she ended up rehoming to a wonderful family friend. Laura would make a point of stopping by when she went to see her parents. She would laugh with Sherill and marvel at how happy and well the chickens had adjusted. She missed those birds every day .
When Laura would lose an animal it was like a piece of her had died too. They were very much her children and she would have given her life to save them if she could, Since Laura has passed two of her precious babies have passed over that rainbow bridge to be with her. Such is the bond she had with her animals.
On August 13, 2021 Laura passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital North in Lutz, Florida. She passed away from complications of COVID-Pneumonia Delta variant. She died from a pulmonary edema/ heart attack all of which was so preventable.
She will be missed more than words can ever express!
