Laura's obituary
Laura Marie Astrin, 43, passed away on March 30, 2023, in Newport Beach, CA. She was born on August 2, 1979, in Long Beach, CA, to Heather Westerfield-Pate and Bruce Millington, who predeceased her.
Laura is survived by her sister Tracy Millington, brother Adam Millington, sister Mallory White, and step-father Joseph Westerfield.
Laura was a very special person who made her own path in this world. She was kind and compassionate. She always wanted to help and would offer everything she could to lift up those she surrounded herself with, including the shoes off of her own feet. She was resilient and brave. Her bravery was rewarded with the Courageous Citizens Award in 2016 for putting her life on the line to save an elderly gentleman’s life.
Laura worked very hard to receive a lineman certification. When putting herself through this trade school she worked at a grocery store filling many roles and relied on a bicycle to help her accomplish her goals.
Laura had a very hard life and struggled with various challenges throughout, but even in the midst of her difficulties, she had a kind and loving spirit. Despite her struggles, she never lost her compassion for others and was always willing to lend a helping hand whenever she could.
Her strength was a virtue but her desire to never be a burden left those who loved her in positions that were hard to extend help. We encourage everyone to reach out to those they love and seek help and guidance from reliable places. Your mental health does not define your worth. Addiction doesn’t replace your humanity.
Private services will be held for immediate family members in Jackson Hole, WY, and St. George, UT. A memorial service will be held at a later date in Long Beach, CA before spreading her ashes at sea.
In honor of Laura, demand change in our healthcare system to support better outcomes for people with mental illness and those who struggle with addiction. Support programs that offer humanity to the homeless.
In lieu of flowers or offerings, we request that charitable donations be made in memory of the deceased to Help Me Help You at https://www.helpmehelpu.org/.
