LaSonya's obituary

LaSonya "Candy" Belcher gained her wings on December 13, 2021, at age 48. LaSonya was born to Archie Nelson Jr. and Sonya Butler on September 2, 1973, in Wichita Falls, TX. As a child, LaSonya excelled in school, graduating in 1992 from Wichita Falls High School. During her high school years, she was inducted into the highly esteemed Debutante society and obtained her Cosmetology license before graduation. LaSonya met her husband Dwight Belcher in 2003 in Wichita Falls, TX. They married soon after in 2005 and merged their blended family of 4 children, Tamela Byrd, Kelly Byrd, Brittney Belcher, and Dominique Belcher.

She practiced as a Certified Phlebotomist for over a decade and previously owned her own daycare center focusing on care for military families. Up until her recent passing she was a proud essential worker, practicing as a Lab Technician for a local plasma donation center. LaSonya had a passion for fashion, always dressed to impress with a cute bag, jewelry, and accessories. Isaiah 43:1-3

But now, this is what the Lord says—

he who created you, Jacob,

he who formed you, Israel:

“Do not fear, for I have redeemed you;

I have summoned you by name; you are mine.

When you pass through the waters,

I will be with you;

and when you pass through the rivers,

they will not sweep over you.

When you walk through the fire,

you will not be burned;

the flames will not set you ablaze.

For I am the Lord your God,

the Holy One of Israel, your Savior

Poem to the Family

"When Great Trees Fall"

By Maya Angelou

When great trees fall,

rocks on distant hills shudder,

lions hunker down

in tall grasses,

and even elephants

lumber after safety.

When great trees fall

in forests,

small things recoil into silence,

their senses

eroded beyond fear.

When great souls die,

the air around us becomes

light, rare, sterile.

We breathe, briefly.

Our eyes, briefly,

see with

a hurtful clarity.

Our memory, suddenly sharpened,

examines,

gnaws on kind words

unsaid,

promised walks

never taken.

Great souls die and

our reality, bound to

them, takes leave of us.

Our souls,

dependent upon their

nurture,

now shrink, wizened.

Our minds, formed

and informed by their

radiance, fall away.

We are not so much maddened

as reduced to the unutterable ignorance of

dark, cold

caves.

And when great souls die,

after a period peace blooms,

slowly and always

irregularly. Spaces fill

with a kind of

soothing electric vibration.

Our senses, restored, never

to be the same, whisper to us.

They existed. They existed.

We can be. Be and be

better. For they existed.
