Larry's obituary
Larry Kent Sheldon, 89, passed away peacefully in the early morning on April 9th, 2024. Larry spent his final days surrounded by his loved ones including his children and grandchildren. He was comforted by the fact that after waiting 15 long years, he would finally be with his late wife, Alvita, once again.
Larry was born in Fargo, North Dakota on February 14th, 1935 to Clinton Wade Sheldon and Esther Lillian Kringler. Larry was brother to 5 siblings: Leon Sheldon, Betty Miller, Bonnie Bubach, Claude Sheldon, and Clyde Sheldon. Larry was raised on a farm in Wheatland, North Dakota. Larry attended college at Valley City State and studied education and mechanics. Shortly after graduating Larry served 4 years in the Air Force as a mechanic.
Larry met his wife of 51 years, Alvita, and married in 1958. Larry and Alvita raised their three children in Bellingham, Minnesota where Larry was known for being a jack-of-all trades. Larry taught math, music, science, astronomy, and computers while also coaching wrestling and baseball. He often worked in construction during his summers. In his free time he enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, and being an active member of the Bellingham American Legion. Larry was a gifted handyman and was always willing to help someone in need. In 2008, Larry and his wife moved to sunny Arizona to spend their retirement near family. After the passing of his wife, Alvita, Larry spent his time staying active, exploring, and being with his loved ones. Larry could often be spotted, even in the middle of summer, biking around Gilbert.
Larry is survived by his three children: Alan Sheldon (Debra), Cathy Sandwich, and Mark Sheldon; 9 grandchildren: Jeremy Sheldon (Tiera), Joshua Sheldon (Jenn), Nichole Ehlers (Steven), Ryan Schoo, Caitlyn Mora, Megan Schoo, Brianna Sheldon, Shelby Sheldon, Samantha Sheldon; and 19 great grandchildren.
Larry’s celebration of life will be held in May for close family as his ashes along with those of his late wife, Alvita, are released on Superstition Mountain in Arizona at his request.
