I love my brother Larry. He always took care of his little sister. Special times together was always centers around music and praising God through singing and playing. Family times together often meant Calvin (other brother) and Larry on guitars, Mom (Laura) sang and I played the piano. Our Dad thoroughly enjoyed sitting on the couch listening to us—special times. I also cherish the times we shared in worship together. One of our favorite pieces was Ken Medema’s song “Moses.” Larry sang that so beautifully as I accompanied him on the piano. I miss him but rejoice with the rest of the family in knowing that, because of our relationship with Christ, we will all one day be reunited in heaven. Oh what a glorious day that will be!! Larry Purkey, affectionately called "Papa Purkey" in our worship choir, was a wonderful Christian man who will be greatly missed! He had a beautiful voice, big smile, and loving personality! His Christian example was evident to all who knew him. He loved his Lord and Savior, his beautiful wife, Kena, his children, their spouses, and his precious grandchildren! ❤
I sang with Larry in both The CenturyMen and the Singing Men of Texas. He will be sorely missed not only for his great voice but his ever-present smile and joyous attitude. Prayers for his family.
I am sorry to hear of Larry's passing. He was a wonderful man who taught me a lot of things during his time of service in Kingsville. He will be missed by all who loved and knew him.
So sorry to learn of Larry's passing. I have such fond memories of the Christmas pageants he led at First Baptist Kingsville and his faithful work with the children's choir ministry. My daughter, now grown and married, participated in many of these. My mother, Betsy, also shares Larry's birthday of May 4, and he would call and sing "Happy "Birthday" to her each year. May our God grant comfort and peace to Kena and the family. Larry is now singing with the angels!
My sympathy to Larry's family. I'm a member of The Centurymen and was so sorry to hear of his passing. Please know that I will be praying for all of you during this time. Dan Arterburn
I am greatly saddened to hear of Larry's passing. He was a great blessing to all of us in the Singing Men of Texas -NC chapter! Please know that you all are in our thoughts and in our prayers in this time of your great loss. Sincerely, Charles Stewart Chaplain SMONCT
We were so sorry to hear of Larry's passing! We knew Larry from high school and church in Shawnee, OK. A nice person and friendly to all. Just reconnected through Facebook a few years ago and it was nice catching up and knowing how he so successfully used his love of music through God. Our love to Kena and family! Our prayers are with you!
