Larry's obituary
Larry Ray Pitts passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, January 15, 2003, at the age of 47. A fiercely loving husband, father, son, and grandfather, he left us too soon, but his vibrant Spirit remains a beacon of light for all who knew him.
Born on October 4, 1955, in Mount Pleasant, Larry lived a life characterized by deep faith, service, dedication, and a wonderful, goofy sense of humor.
A Life of Faith and Commitment
Larry's commitment to service began when he proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served as a mechanic and deeply valued the experience, which fostered the discipline and sense of comradery he cherished throughout his life.
On May 2, 1975, he married the love of his life, Vickie Anne Price, in Lubbock. Their enduring marriage of nearly 28 years was a testament to their deep partnership and mutual devotion.
For much of his professional life, Larry worked as an engineer for various television stations. However, the true measure of his character was found in his service to others. He was a devoted man of faith who served his church family as a Deacon at the First Baptist Church of New Deal. He also dedicated himself to his community as a volunteer firefighter with the New Deal Volunteer Fire Department, drawn to both roles by the opportunity for comradery and the continued ability to help people. He was briefly employed at Wilkerson Storage at the time of his passing.
The Goofy Man We Knew
Outside of his work and service, Larry was the source of endless laughter and warmth for his family. He was famously silly and goofy, often channeling the spirit of the Disney character Goofy to entertain his children and grandchildren. He cherished time spent with his family above all else, and his love was the bedrock of their lives. Larry's grandchildren, who knew how bright his spirit shined, associate his memory with the song "Spirit in the Sky."
Enduring Family Legacy
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Vickie Pitts of Abernathy, TX; his mother, Frankie Brown of Talco; his son, Jimmy McCright of Clinton, Iowa; and his daughter, Dena-Rae Nordstrom of Lubbock. He also leaves behind two brothers, Gary of North Carolina and Randy of Talco.
Nothing brought Larry more joy than his four beloved grandchildren: Jessica, Scott, Joey, and Sarah, who will carry his loving, goofy spirit in their hearts forever.
