Larry's obituary
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Laycock Sr., beloved husband, father, Papa, brother, and friend, who left us on March 18, 2025, at the age of 81. He grew up in Round Lake, IL and graduated from Round Lake High School in 1962. After high school, Larry went through the apprenticeship program to become a union electrician with IBEW, Lake County IL, Local 150. From there Larry was drafted to the US Army where he proudly served his country in the Vietnam War. Larry and Barbara raised their family in Lake Villa, IL and most recently became snowbirds in Queen Creek, AZ.
Born on September 22, 1943, in Racine, WI to Mike (Frances) Laycock and Olene (C.W.) Skinner, Larry lived a life marked by kindness, love, and devotion to his family and friends. He was a cherished husband to his wife, Barbara of 58 years, and a dedicated father to their two children, Laurel (Kevin) Wodrich and Brian Laycock, along with his daughter-in-law Kim Laycock, beloved grandchildren and 4-legged furry companion, Lila Grace. His love for them was boundless, and he treasured every moment spent with them. He was also predeceased by his dear child, Larry Laycock Jr., whose loss he carried with quiet strength. Larry was the brother to Roger Laycock and Robert Skinner and predeceased by siblings Charles and Cindy Skinner.
Known for his generous spirit, Larry was always there for those who needed him. Whether it was a friend in need or a family member seeking guidance, he was the first to lend a hand or offer a word of advice. Larry enjoyed being involved with the Boy Scouts and the Girl Scouts while his children were growing up. His hobbies included camping, working on puzzles, working on cars, and talking on the CB radios. You could always find Larry in his Veteran's hat with a cup of coffee chatting with anyone who would listen. This past summer Larry was able to participate in the Lake County Honor Flight to Washington D.C. It was a heart-felt trip that he was able to take with his late son and celebrate with other local veterans.
A service will be held to honor Larry's memory at a later date during the summer of 2025 in Illinois.
He will be deeply missed but forever remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.
May he rest in peace.
