Larry's obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Larry Holyfield, Sr., who left us peacefully on February 20, 2026.
Larry was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend whose strength, kindness, humor, and steady presence shaped the lives of all who knew him. Born on October 5, 1954 in Hobson City, AL, he grew up with a strong sense of family, integrity, and hard work—values he carried throughout his life.
He dedicated much of his life to Talladega National Forest Service – Shoal Creek, where he was respected for his work ethic, skills, and leadership. Beyond his work, he found joy in relaxing and spending time with friends. He had a special gift for fixing things and making people laugh and his presence made every gathering warmer.
He is survived by his children Christina (Chadwick) Horne, Beverly (Ronald) Ervin, and Larry (Amy) Holyfield, Jr.; his grandchildren Tatiana Ervin, Kya Battle, Ronald Ervin, Jr, Steven Battle III, Benjamin Holyfield, Alaina Holyfield; and his siblings, Willie Holyfield, Mary (the late, Darrell) Johnson, Brenda Holyfield, William”Tootsie”Holyfield, Wanda (Charles) Henson, Angela Holyfield, and Caroline Holyfield. He was preceded in death by his father, Clifton Holyfield; his mother, Lois Holyfield; his siblings, Margret Whitfield, Walter Holyfield, and Stanley Holyfield; his grandchildren, Jeremiah Holyfield and Brody Holyfield.
His legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the love he gave, and the memories we will carry forever. Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort in knowing his life was one of purpose, devotion, and quiet strength.
