Larry's obituary

Larry James Hearold Jr. 1947 - 2025

Larry James Hearold Jr. passed away at Advent Health in Connerton, Florida in the late evening hours of Monday, May 12th, 2025 at the age of 77.

Larry was born on August 12, 1947 in Tampa Florida to parents Larry Sr. and Beatrix. He was raised in the small central Florida town of Ruskin where he lived with his parents and sisters Beatrix and Judy until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1965 at the age of 18.

Larry began his active duty service in October of 1966. After completing basic and additional specialist training, he was assigned for duty in Manheim, Germany. By May of 1969, Larry had completed his NCO training, earning the rank of sergeant, and began his three years of combat service in Vietnam where he met and married his first wife, Lua. Larry eventually completed over 20 years of active duty service as a chemical and maintenance specialist/sergeant stationed at a variety of installations including Long Binh, Vietnam, Fort Jackson, South Carolina, Fort Riley, Kansas and Fort Hood, Texas. He retired from the military in 1987 with the rank of master sergeant having been awarded numerous metals, decorations and citations including but not limited to:

Meritorious Service Medal

Army Commendation Medal

Meritorious Unit Commendation

National Defense Service Medal

Vietnam Service Medal

Army Good Conduct Medal

Vietnam Service Medal

Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation

Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal

In the midst of service to his country, Larry also continued his civilian education, enrolling at Big Bend Community College in 1978 and graduating in 1981 with an Associate Degree in Business Administration and Management. He ultimately accepted a position with GTE Corporation where he worked as an IT professional. In February of 1993, Larry left GTE to start Micro Consultants, an IT consulting firm of which he was the owner and principal. After owning and operating his company for over 17 years, Larry sold the business and retired in June of 2010.

Larry and Lua raised three children, April, Larry the 3rd, and Maria during their marriage which spanned nearly 17 years between December of 1972 and July of 1989. Larry moved to Massachusetts upon the conclusion of his marriage to Lua, and there he met and married his second wife Stephanie Ganss in Lunenburg, Massachusetts in late April of 1991. Larry and Stephanie remained happily married for the better part of two decades until her passing in June of 2010. Shortly thereafter, Larry returned to Florida and was briefly married to a third wife in 2012 and for several years thereafter before meeting Mysti Adams in 2016. Larry and Mysti struck up a friendship which grew over time, ultimately leading to their marriage in December of 2018, a marriage that endured until his passing.

Larry had a passion for the muscle cars of the 60’s, the cars which he grew up with. He was truly a craftsman when it came to modifying and restoring cars, trucks and motorcycles. He could take an old, broken down, rusted car and transform it into a beautiful piece of automotive art. Larry was also a humanitarian and an enthusiastic animal lover of all kinds. Cats, dogs, horses, cattle, chickens, anything he could domesticate he tried at one time or another in his life.

Larry is survived by his wife Mysti Hearold, sister Beatrix, daughter April Hodges, son Larry J. Hearold III, daughter Maria C. Hartley, 9 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, his Pitbull/Labrador/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix Cinnamon and his cats Maddy and Lucy.

Larry's remains will be interred at Bushnell National Cemetery Ceremonial Assembly Area within the Florida National Cemetery at a private service for family and friends on a date to be determined.
