Larry's obituary
Larry Gene Wheeler was born on March 10, 1949 in Paragould, Arkansas, the youngest son to Mildred Austin Wheeler and Marlin Wheeler. He passed on October 4, 2021 in Grapevine, Texas at 72 years of age. Larry graduated from Paragould High School in 1967. He spent the majority of his life in Paragould and moved to Texas in 2012 to be close to his 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren, the pride and joy of his life.
Larry lived for his children and grandchildren. He was the most dedicated father to his two daughters, Paige and Lacey. From the time they were born he dedicated his life to making their lives the best he could, instilling in them a strong faith in God and devotion to family, always supporting them in every endeavor, providing advice and wisdom when needed, and offering comedic relief in every situation. A proud, devoted “Papaw” to his five grandchildren, Payton, Abby, Gracey, Ally, and Emma, he coached their sports teams, paid for sporting equipment and lessons, drove them to practices and events, never missed a game or production, and cheered them on from the stands as their biggest supporter. “Papaw” never missed an opportunity to take his grandkids out for ice cream or meals, to the park on pretty days, for sleepovers at his place, and to countless other activities any chance he could. From daily pick-ups and drop offs during the school year to emergency “sick calls”, Papaw would always drop everything and come with just one phone call or text from any of his grandkids. Never a dull moment with their Papaw, the kids enjoyed laughing at his crazy antics and reading his silly text messages sent to them at all hours of the day or night.
Larry was known for having a joke or one-liner for every occasion. He was always the first to arrive and the last to leave at any family gathering, loved family game night, and was the undisputed Beyond Balderdash champion with the funniest responses around. He leaves his family and friends with a thousand one-liners and countless stories to make them laugh.
Larry is survived by his oldest daughter Paige Wheeler Reynolds; youngest daughter Lacey Wheeler Arencibia and spouse David Arencibia; grandchildren Payton Reynolds, Abby Reynolds, Gracey Arencibia, Ally Arencibia, and Emma Reynolds. In addition to his children and grandchildren, Larry is survived by his mother, Mildred Wheeler of Paragould; sister, Marlene Hathcoat; brother, Harlin Wheeler, and countless other family members and friends.
Larry cherished his family and selflessly thought of them above himself at all times. Described by his sister as having a "heart of gold", he would give whatever was needed to those around him without hesitation. His presence in our daily lives will be greatly missed and the void left in the lives of those who loved him will never be filled. He will be forever loved, forever missed, and forever remembered.
Information regarding memorial services for Larry will be forthcoming.
