LARRY's obituary

Larry Gene Byrum, beloved husband and father, passed away peacefully on June 19, 2024, of complications from Parkinson's Disease.

Larry was born January 27, 1942 in Tucson Arizona and grew up there, and in California, Texas and New Mexico.   In New Mexico Larry met his wife of nearly 60 years, Marina Stubblefield.  They married on September 5, 1964 in Hobbs, New Mexico.

After earning a Bachelor's Degree at Eastern New Mexico University in Portales, NM, Larry and Marina moved to Kansas City, MO, where he went to work for Sinclair and Valentine, an ink manufacturing company.  In 1966, he received his draft notice, so enlisted in the Army, went through Officer's Candidate School and graduated as 2nd Lieutenant Larry Byrum.   He was then assigned to serve at Fort Bliss in El Paso, TX.   There he trained  enlistees for a year; and then was tapped to run the Ft. Bliss Golf Course for his last year's assignment.

After his honorable discharge from the Army, he and Marina moved to Garland, Texas; where Marina gave birth to their son, Jeffrey Lane Byrum on March 19, 1970.   The family lived in the Dallas area for the next 20 years.  It was there that Larry worked for a Dallas-based paint company called Jones-Blair Paint Company.  He began his career with Jones-Blair as a lab technician, formulating paints for the Industrial Coatings Division.  After 4 years in the lab, he was promoted to area sales manager of that same division of Jones-Blair and worked in that capacity for another 26 years.

In 1965, Larry and Marina began to travel and together they covered a large part of the world for the next 50 -plus years.  Travel was a big passion, but he also loved to fish and play golf.

Larry and Marina moved to Austin, TX in 1990; and continued their travels.  Then in 2013 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease.

Larry is survived by his wife, Marina Sue Byrum; their son Jeffrey Lane Byrum; a sister, Cheryl Kay Powviriya, his brother Harry Lee Byrum; and several nieces and  nephews, plus eight  great-nieces. and one great nephew and one great-great nephew.   He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
