Larry and Jane's obituary

Larry Dominic Giacomo (March 18, 1942 – March 17, 2025) and Jane Marie Giacomo (August 6, 1945 – March 18, 2025)

Larry Dominic Giacomo and Jane Marie Giacomo, devoted husband and wife of nearly 58 years, passed away peacefully, surrounded by loved ones. Their lives were a testament to love, faith, and family.

Larry was born on March 18, 1942, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to George and Cleo (Colvard) Giacomo. He grew up in Wilburton, graduating from Wilburton High School in 1960. He joined the Army National Guard in 1961 and enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1962. Larry completed Advanced Infantry Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and proudly served 14 months in Korea before his honorable discharge in 1965. He resumed his education and graduated from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1967 and Oklahoma State University in 1971 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.

Larry spent his entire professional career with Halliburton Services, where he worked for 25 years. He began as a Field Engineer, advanced to District Manager, and retired as a respected Technical Advisor. His expertise and leadership made a lasting impact in the oil and gas industry. One of his proudest accomplishments—and a long-running family joke—was that he received the Halliburton Safe Driving Award every year of his 25-year career. He never received a single ticket during his entire time with the company, and he made sure everyone knew it.

Larry had a passion for building and creating. Whether it was tiny picnic tables for squirrels, custom furniture, or fixing up something for a neighbor, he was happiest with a project in hand. He especially loved helping with the woodshop class at the Vo-Tech, where he could share his skills and love for craftsmanship. He loved hunting and fishing with his son Chad and treasured his annual fishing trips to Lake of the Woods in Canada—a tradition he shared with lifelong friends, his son Chad, and grandsons Matthew and Brody. His daily 4:00 p.m. coffee gatherings at Red Prairie or K-Bob’s with friends (especially Mike) and grandsons Brody and Bo became a cherished routine that brought him great joy.

Jane was born on August 6, 1945, in McAlester, Oklahoma, to Troy and Alta Marie (Cox) Wagner. She also grew up in Wilburton and graduated from Wilburton High School in 1963. She earned an Associate’s Degree in General Studies from Eastern Oklahoma State College in 1965, where she was a proud member of the Angel Flight Organization.

As a stay-at-home mom, Jane was the heart of her family—lovingly referred to as “The Giacomo Family Operations Manager.” She cooked every meal, rarely ever eating out, and made sure her children had everything they needed. With Larry often working long hours, Jane managed their busy household largely on her own, raising four children with patience, strength, and unwavering love. She balanced daily life, homework, activities, discipline, and comfort all by herself with remarkable grace and humor.

Jane had a deep and genuine devotion to others. She was always the homeroom mom for all her children’s school events and classroom activities, embodying care, generosity, and tireless support. She was a cherished friend, always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need—from neighbors and friends to her church community. She dearly loved her church family and was constantly involved in helping in any way she could. Her dedication to others was simply who she was: devoted, kind, and always there when needed.

She especially loved animals, and her compassion for them was unmatched. Jane doted on her dogs and lovingly cared for a host of outside cats. In the words of Dr. Didier, “Your mom had the superpower of giving life, and it manifested in a way of getting animals to live in a way far past what they should have.”

Larry and Jane went on their first date in 1966 and were married on May 20, 1967, in Wilburton. After living briefly in Wilburton and Stillwater, they made their permanent home in Woodward in 1972. They lived a life devoted to one another and to their family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, hard work, and deep pride in their children and grandchildren.

They found immense joy in attending every school event, sports game, and milestone of their children and grandchildren. They cherished not only their children and grandchildren but also deeply adored their sons-in-law and daughter-in-law. It was a running family joke trying to guess which son-in-law was Jane’s favorite—an impossible task since she made each feel like they were. Larry and Jane’s love extended fully to those their children married, welcoming them with warmth, pride, and true joy. They lived a life devoted to one another and to their family, creating a home filled with love, laughter, hard work, and deep pride in their children and grandchildren.

Though their paths to faith were different—Jane’s being constant and giving, and Larry’s arriving later in life—both came to know and trust in the love of Christ. This faith gives their family deep reassurance and comfort in believing that Larry and Jane are now rejoicing together in Heaven, united once again and resting in God's eternal peace.

They were preceded in death by their parents, George and Cleo Giacomo and Troy and Alta Wagner; Larry’s brothers, Jimmie Giacomo, Michael Giacomo, and Ricky Giacomo; and his sisters, Georgeanne Kennedy and Paula Humphrey.

Larry is survived by his sister, Debbie Beller and her husband Tim, and his brother, Steve Giacomo and his wife Cindi.

Together, Larry and Jane are survived by their children: Kristi Hoover and husband Erik of Austin, Texas; Chad Giacomo and wife Cyndi of Woodward, Oklahoma; Kelli Shaw and husband Rocky of Woodward; and Samantha Patten and husband Rocky of Woodward.

They are also lovingly remembered by their loving grandchildren: Rylie McCulloch and husband Mark, Payton Abernathy and husband Matt, Clay Hoover, Matthew Giacomo, Emilly Giacomo, Kimberlee Shaw and fiancé Andrew Hinkle, Charley Shaw, Brody Patten and fiancée Cindy Gabrel, and Bo Patten.

A joint memorial service celebrating Larry and Jane’s lives will be held on May 24th at 11:00 AM at the Church of Christ in Woodward, Oklahoma.
